Book Description

October 1997
This is a great bathroom book. You go in constipated and come out motivated. Perfect for today's busy reader. There's even a condensed version within the book for "Emergency Situations". You don't have to start this book from the beginning. Just pick a chapter of interest and go for it.

I wrote this book to fire people up to communicate better, lower stress levels, and add value and enjoyment to personal lives.

The book contains proven simple tools to uncomplicate lives. People will try simple. They don't like difficult, psychobabble or books they feel they are going for college credit. They want something they can start using today!

Each of the fifty-two short burst chapters explains a Nugget (skill) of life that can improve communication and relationships. They describe remarkable, practical, humorous, and common experiences to inspire change. This book will be referred to again and again to answer your questions about stress, communication and relationships.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget expensive therapy. BUY THE BOOK!!, August 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fire Up Your Communication Skills: Get People to Listen, Understand, and Give You What You Want! (Paperback)
As a part-time server at a popular breakfast spot I can always count on my regular customers to say, "here's what you should do", about whatever crisis I may be having. I know they mean well, so when Captain Bob's book was suggested I thought "oh, here we go again!" As I began to look over the Table of Contents I became intrigued. As I read (and re-read) the chapters that pertained to my current situation I found myself thinking, "Yeah, that's it. Somebody does get it!!" I was so excited that I had finally found something that could really help and in language that made sense. The chapters are short and to the point. Captain Bob's book made me realize that though life will always throw some curves you can control how you handle them. After two years I still refer to the book and have sent copies to my mother and sister.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fragamented Pieces, Nothing New and Too Much Chitchat., October 23, 2000

Too much chitchat. A lot of stories, no depth. It may be OK for people to manage personal relationships but not for communication in business.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Nuggets" are more valuable than gold, and last forever!, August 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fire Up Your Communication Skills: Get People to Listen, Understand, and Give You What You Want! (Paperback)
This book is great "bedtime reading for everyone". The flame that is created by practicing the "exercises from the heart", is eternal. Even before fully experiencing the rewards promised by the author, I felt excited by all of the possibilities as I read about the stories of others. If we all commit to tossing into the "bonfire" all of our old habits that are not working in the best interest of our relationships, could you imagine what the new century will hold for all of us. I particularly love the chapter on "Flower Therapy". My partner is a musician, frequently he purchases flowers on his way home from a "gig" and they are on the kitchen table when I start my day. Wow!!! "Captain Bob" covers the most important issues in relationships, "The Love Bank Deposits", and "Contracts For Clarity". This book is soooooo easy to read because it is full of humor, the soother of the soul. Highly digestible material and well said in "plain talk". This is the kind of book that, even after being read from cover to cover, will be a valuable resource of reminders that keep the candle of romance burning forever!!!!!!!
