Biography

Survivor is an American AOR rock band formed in 1977, most famous for their track "Eye of the Tiger" which was the theme tune to the film Rocky III.

The core of the band was formed around the founder members, Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan, though only Sullivan remains with the band today.

Their first release was Survivor which failed to ignite the interest of the music buying public. Premonition,… Read more in Amazon's Survivor Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot better than US version..., March 8, 2002
This album contains 6 more songs but is less expensive than US version (Greatest Hits). Sound quality is great. Which CD do you want to buy then? I am enjoying all the songs in the album. I was lucky to find this nice imported album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Greatest Hits CDs, December 18, 2001
By
jeffrey343 "jeffrey343" (Plano, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This is one of the two imported versions of Survivor's Greatest Hits (the other one is called "Prime Cuts"). Each CD has 18 songs (a real bargain!) I compared the song lists of the two, and there are only four songs which are on both CDs ("Eye Of The Tiger", "High On You", "I Can't Hold Back", and "The Search Is Over", which are four of their biggest hits). Of the two, this CD has more of the songs you would have heard on the radio. It includes two songs that were on movie soundtracks but not on any studio CDs - "Burning Heart" and "Moment Of Truth". This CD is heavier on the Jimi Jamison era tunes, with only five of the 18 tracks coming from their first four albums. It includes five tunes from the excellent "Too Hot To Sleep" CD.

Comparing it to "Greatest Hits", this one lacks the two new tunes available only on that CD, but I was not overly impressed with those tunes anyway. They're OK, but they're not "hits", and the casual fan has likely never heard them. This one also lacks "Somewhere In America", a good tune and a minor hit from their debut CD. But the other nine tunes on "Greatest Hits" are on here as well.

I cannot attest to the sound quality or whether these are the full-length versions of the songs, but I can definitely recommend this CD based on the song list. It includes ALL the major hits, and the non-hits that were included are all great tunes. Of the three greatest hits packages that are available, I would recommend this one for most people, especially if you do not have all their studio CDs. The only quibble with this compilation is that it does not include any tunes at all from their "Survivor" or "Caught In The Game" CDs. The title track to "Caught In The Game" was enough of a hit to be included here, IMO. If you have all the Survivor CDs, and you really want to own the two tunes available only on the "Greatest Hits" CD, then you can get that one instead, but I recommend this CD for the majority of people, especially those who primarily want the music they are familiar with.
