Editorial Reviews

Review

Produced by well-known writer John E. Traister and illustrator John A. Karns, and published by Stoeger in 1995, this is an excellent reference source for exploded diagrams, clear instructions, parts drawings and dimensions for having critical parts fabricated if necessary, troubleshooting and addresses to check for replacement parts. Serial numbers and years of manufacture are included for many guns -- Denis Prisbrey, Guns of the Old West, Summer 2005

About the Author

The late John Traister authored more than 100 different books. In 1978, he launched a gun-trading and gunsmithing business in Bentonville, Virginia. It was during this time, while restoring obsolete firearms, that Traister first found the need for a reference such as Firearms Disassembly with Exploded Views. John Karns managed a sporting goods store for years, where he bought, sold and repaired millions of dollars worth of firearms and reloaded custom ammunition for customers. During the 1980s, he began applying his former art training to the firearms industry - disassembling all types of firearms and drawing exploded views of the various parts during the process. Dozens of these exploded views were published in the American Rifleman, American Gunsmith and other national publications.

2.0 out of 5 stars comprehensive but poor drawings, December 30, 1998
This review is from: Firearms Disassembly with Exploded Views (Paperback)
This book covers a lot of territory, but a lot of the drawings are poorly reproduced, blurry even, and might not be suitable for disassembly/reassembly.

This review is from: Firearms Disassembly with Exploded Views (Paperback)
This book was panned by another reader, but compared to "The Gun Digest Book of Exploded Long Gun Drawings", this one is much better. Several of the Gun Digest book drawings are so poor as to be useless, a function of the quality of the original more than reproduction. For readers interested in an book with a lot of older firearms drawings, get a "Gun Parts Corp." catalog.
