Fireblade Rocks!!!,

This review is from: Fireblade (Video Game)
I was a bit sceptical having played Thunderstrike and been disappointed. But this is certainly the best chopper game on PS2. It has a feel of the Strike series by EA, but of course updated to full 3d. Where EA have failed to update the series, Midway have stepped in and done a good job; or rather the developer Kuju have. It's quite a challenging game, with lots going on around you but this produces a white knuckle experience with that "just one more try" mentality to missions you can't quite do. A small number of the missions are stealth which involve using a cloaking device and sneaking up close to the enemy and supporting troops on the ground. It's enhanced by the use of a 1st person shooter style sniper mode, which allows you to xoom in and blow individual limbs off the soldiers. Even when they are dead you can still hack them up! Nasty but nice! It's not perfect, graphically it's not all there, and some missions are bloody hard, but in terms of delivering a fun experience it's well up there with the best. Hopefully this will be the start of a series, as I much prefer the arcade nature of this to the bland siminess of Thunderstrike.

Good game for chopper geeks and patient people.,

Man, I HATE timed levels!! If this game was all about completing objectives on your own sweet time this would be a killer game!! As it stands, it is a cool game if you like flight type sims. Fun blowing up stuff - not fun finding out you have only 30 sec to complete 2 objectives. Lot's of 'ups and downs' as far as level difficulty goes (REALLY easy, then FRIGGIN hard). Not too many chopper sims out for PS2, so give it a try first before buying.

My only reference point for chopper combat games is Thunder Strike: Operation Phoenix which I think is a killer game but I'll try to evaluate FB as a stand alone experience. FB, although high on the entertainment factor, has several ridiculously difficult missions. I'm on the very last mission and, after several days, still don't see how to complete its primary and secondary objectives in the allotted time. Still haven't even figured out how to complete the primary? The game controls are cumbersome and really can't be changed to the player's liking. Graphics and sound are acceptable. Weapons are okay but another gripe I have is that the most effective weapon, the swarmer missiles, is only used on two missions and you don't even have a chance to use them on one of those two. I've also had the game "lock-up" several time and noticed several conflicting or inaccurate comments/orders during game play. I honestly can't recommend buy this game until the price comes down or the used market comes to life. I hate putting such a negative spin on FB but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em. Those of you who enjoy really, really challenging air combat, go for it. Just drop me a line and let me know how to get through the game's last mission before I go insane.

Nice try, but this game is just plain annoying, punctuated with frequent boredom. The AI is stupid, and keeps repeating irrelevant commands. Like another reviewer said, it's simple one minute, and difficult the next, for no logical reason, leaving me to believe that more effort was put into marketing than into creating a decent game. If you still want to try it, I recommend renting it first (Family Video had it for a mere $2.50 for 7 days -- now I know why!)

Lets see. I haven't played the full version of this game but I have played the demo on Playstation2 Underground. What I like about it is that you can go into stealth mode. You can find health and more ammo. You also can use the sniper. Which is totally tight. Esp. when you are in stealth mode and you fire EMP which immoblizes your target. I don't know what the other gamers are about giving this game a 1,or 2 stars. It needs to get 5 stars.

I was so stoked to get a PS2 helicopter and the review on another website was quite good. Unfortunately, reality set in when I started playing and I realized just how poor this game is. The graphics are lame. The flight simulation is even lamer....I mean the helicopter physics in GTAVC are even better. Spend your money on a solid game.

It could be better?,

Fireblade starts off slow, but does get better as you go.Getting by the 2nd mission in campane 1 leaves a lot to your determination to continue. The sniper shooting is to say the least a boring mission. The thing that really grips me is the glitches that continue as the game progresses. Point 1 the back groung music will get stuck and repeat a few bars over and over this can only be stoped by restarting the game at the playstation.Point 2 many times the game freezes up after you complete a succesful mission with out crediting you for the win. GERR.The good things are it does get fun and challenging as you go if you can put up with the back ground music. All in all, OK but you think MIDWAY could better?

... I usually dont get [mad] off at games, but i almost threw it out the window. There was no logic to the game. If you like flying around with minimal arms and getting shot at from all directions by tanks that take all your firepower to kill, buy this game. anyone remember games like "nuclear strike". That was the last good choper game.

I found this game to be incredibly boring. I did not like it. It gets 2 stars for effort, but that's it.

To Difficult,
This review is from: Fireblade (Video Game)
Graphics are good, controls are good except the sniper needs to be redesinged.I too had the game freeze up on me after completing a difficult mission and had to rerun it.Swarmer missiles, great if you ever got to use 'em. This is a definate rental.Like 90% of games today they look good but the gameplay lacks heavily. This game is no different.
