Jangly neo-psychedelia... a wonderful summer morning album,
By
This review is from: Fireblade Skies (Audio CD)
Between Primal Scream, back in their jangly Byrds-influenced early days, and Adventures in Stereo, guitarist Jim Beattie put out a couple EPs and this album on 4AD. The whole album is suffused with a conscious 60s aesthetic, but the songwriting is good enough that it doesn't sound laboured or ironic; merely a collection of beautiful songs dressed up in the sounds of the 60s (something that Beattie continued afterwards in AiS). Definitely taps into the shoegaze Zeitgeist of the early 90s in the rich deep production, but the songs never get lost in the sonics. Features a really nice cover of Love's "Signed DC." This album deserves to be better known.
