Book Description

When a series of high-profile London thefts leaves Detective Jack Callaghan baffled, he begins to suspect that his perpetrator is no average cat burglar. After all, she can apparently melt locks with a gesture, render security cameras useless, and plant subconscious suggestions in the minds of onlookers. But why is this mysterious thief collecting relics of dubious monetary value? And how does Callaghan’s investigation tie in to his increasingly disturbing visions? To find answers, a veteran investigator must first unlock secrets buried deep within himself... all while unraveling a plot that could lead to the downfall of everything he holds dear.

Each Ember’s Ghost is a novel based on the acclaimed Fireborn roleplaying game setting. Written by internationally bestselling author Steven Savile, Each Ember’s Ghost presents readers with a modern world faced with the sudden emergence of magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Fantasy August 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Note: I read an advance review copy of this work.

Taking up the red-hot reins in the Fireborn saga - Each Ember's Ghost is a glorious fantasy that scorches a blazing furrow across London and smokes with the heat of epic occult storytelling.
If you've seen other RPG and tie-in stories from Steven, like the swashbuckling Dark Waters: Risen 2, you'll know the consummate prowess on display in handling a variety of different characters and a fantasy setting already rich in detail.

Playing out in the shady, seedy quarters of the city, Detective Jack Callaghan is baffled by a burglary in which a mysterious thief steals nothing of real value and displays impossible skills in making her entry and escape. Tracking the thief, and meeting an old contact, brings a hidden past to Jack's life, flaming and fighting for control of his destiny. A destiny that entwines dangerously with that of the thief, and brings magic streaming back into the City; dormant for so long, now unleashed in frightening power and anger. Aid comes from top secret quarters, and the long-running battle against the hidden forces of dark power is joined across the hidden side of the City.

Replete with mysticism, the occult, danger, cunning and just plain old thrills - Each Ember's Ghost is a rip-roaring tale of magic in a thoroughly modern setting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and immersive..... March 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was my first sampling of the Fireborn world as well as Mr. Saville's books. I enjoyed both. Saville has an immersive writing style that pulls you in. I enjoyed the narrative and the character development. The book throws the reader into the Fireborn world without much introduction to the background. While this ties into the story development with characters trying to figure out certain changes, there are basic core facts that the characters refer to that are never explained - 'taint' and 'karma' entering the world must be found in another book. The story resolves itself in abrupt manner with the plate set for a sequel; whether that is in the works or not is not revealed and might be a bit frustrating for readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun recreational read August 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Got this book on a whim. I hadn't read anything else in the series, but wanted something totally different to read.
Characters and action moves you through the book. But, there are some parts of the historical fantasy where the authors description gets confusing.
