Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
A fiery beauty intent on claiming her land and a Scottish laird determined to bring peace to the Borderlands alternately attract and antagonize each other. When they wed to foil the villains, they are surprised to find love in the process. Lively action, generally good use of dialect, vividly rendered scenes, and a dash of the paranormal recommend this fast-paced, intricately plotted tale of the late 16th century. Lynnford (Lady Shadowhawk, Topaz: NAL, 1997) lives in Columbus, OH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Cavendish Medieval romance, January 30, 1999
By A Customer

In 1592, English woman Lucina Cavendish travels to the Scottish side of the border to claim some land she recently inherited. However, Alex "Black" Graham and his men capture the spirited lass. He hopes to enlist her aid in obtaining a lasting peace along the Scottish Borders.

As Alex and Lucina become acquainted with each other, they fall in love. However, she learns that the Maxwell clan have kidnapped her brother, planning to use him as a hostage. Lucina is torn between wanting to bolt to help her sibling and desiring to remain in Alex's arms. He too wants to save her brother, especially since his enemy holds the lad captive, but not at the price of peace.

Fans of Scottish historical romances have a treat in store with the release of Janet Lynnford's fourth book in her remarkable Cavendish series. FIREBRAND BRIDE is filled with action that makes the intrigue and danger of sixteenth century Scotland comes to life. Black Graham is exactly what women want in a hero: a strong, sensitive, and courageous person. The firebrand Lucina is an intrepid heroine, who when she loves, she really loves. Ms. Lynnford turns the excessively used time and locale into a refreshing saga.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFULLY DELIGHTFUL!!!, June 6, 1999
By A Customer
I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS BOOK. IT IS THE FIRST OF HER BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ AND I HOPE TO READ ALL OF THEM. IT STARTS FROM THE FIRST PAGE AND THE STORY KEEPS YOU TURNING THE PAGES WITH LOVE AND MYSTERY. I HATED TO SEE IT END. THE CHARACTERS ARE SO FASCINATING AND LUCINA WAS A DELIGHT AND ALEX GRAHAM GOES RIGHT TO YOUR HEART. FINALLY A WOMAN WHO HAS A BACKBONE, KNOWS WHAT SHE WANTS AND IS NOT AFRAID TO LET A MAN KNOW SHE LOVES HIM. I AM SO TIRED OF THE HATE, LOVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE GIRL SO AFRAID TO SAY WHAT SHE FEELS OR THINKS. THIS BOOK HAD IT ALL, SCOTLAND, HORSES, HONEST LOVE AND I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO READ ALL OF JANET LYNNFORD'S BOOKS. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR STYLE OR THE GREAT STRENGTH YOU GIVE YOUR CHARACTERS. I AM NOW A DEVOTED FAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Firebrand Bride is a not to be missed read., March 11, 1999
By A Customer
Romantic Times magazine says of Lynnford's latest, "Rich in historical detail and personages, Firebrand Bride is a delicious banquet for Scottish history/romance fans. A strong heroine and equally powerful hero, an exciting backdrop, colorful details and fascinating characters make this a not to be missed read." Reviewed by Kathe Robin
