Lisa Loeb - No Fairy Tale EPK

Biography

Lisa Loeb’s highly anticipated return to the pop/rock world after immersing herself in other projects may be called No Fairy Tale, but it’s actually another charmed chapter of her storybook-like career which began in the mid-90’s. She emerged from the New York coffeehouse and club circuits with her trademark Grammy® nominated hit “Stay (I Missed You)”--the ... Read more in Amazon's Lisa Loeb Store

Product Description

Lisa Loeb ~ Firecracker

Amazon.com

Firecracker picks up right where Loeb's 1995 debut Tails left off, mixing relentlessly upbeat pop numbers with moody ballads tied together with her innate sense for a memorable melody. Firecracker starts particularly strong: A thumping bass line propels the rhythmic "I Do," lush string arrangements swoon behind "Falling in Love," "Truthfully" posesses the same kind of simple pop grace that made her 1994 song "Stay" a huge hit, and "Let's Forget About It" is probably the most instantly catchy song of the bunch. The rest of the record doesn't quite keep up that pace, but overall Firecracker shows Loeb clearly avoiding the "sophomore slump" curse. --Peter Blackstock

I don't know of a more beautiful song than Lisa Loeb's 'How'. It is perfect, brilliant and captivating. I love every inch of it. "Firecracker" is Lisa's second album and it does a great job. Some of the songs I don't see fit for this album but most of the songs do the CD justice. I love Lisa's vocals and acoustic sound. The opener 'I Do' is also an amazing song, especially for an opener.

i promise you if you buy this and tails-you will like everysingle song!! this album is not as intimate as tails-and not exactly taking the folk/rock style she had then-, is still i would have to say the 2nd greatest album i've known. (the first is tails) guise-lisa loen truly knows how to catch your ear and her lyrics make you really think. you never wanna stop listening to it. "Frecracker," "Truthfully," "Let's forget about it," "FURIOUS ROSE!" and especially "I do." rock!!!!!!!! the only song on this album (in fact the only song out of all of her songs that was a bit of a let down was 'jake') but buy this album, its the best....and remember to get tails too. p.s. does anyone know if shes writing a new album?

This is one of those rare cd's that can be listened to the whole way through without skipping any songs. I can honestly say that I have had this cd for a long time...and I have never gotten sick of it. It has just the right mixture of uplifting, meaningful, and thoughtful songs. It is very difficult to pick my top five songs on Firecracker, but they would have to be 1) Furious Rose 2)Jake 3) Wishing Heart 4)Falling in Love 5)How
I would suggest this to anyone who wants a diverse record filled with songs to lift your spirits or make you think.

Cliched as it may be, "amazing" is the only word that may accurately describe Lisa Loeb's second album. Whereas many artists suffer the "sophomore jinx," never to be heard from again, Lisa Loeb returns with style and grace. Loeb's musical style has evolved immeasurably - the CD has more of an acoustic sound to it, allowing the meaningful lyrics to stand out and shine, while the mature instrumentals add further depth. Personally, this is my favorite album of Lisa's for the aforementioned reasons, and, though teenyboppers might be a bit disappointed, perhaps this album will help them appreciate artful music. And if not, I'm sure they'll grow into it. This CD gets my highest possible rating.....and then some.

"Fantastic" does not begin to describe the album. Lisa Loeb may not be one of today's most popular artistes, but she's certainly among the best. Her sweet voice creates a different and unique expression in every song.
Her songwriting is fabulous, telling different stories with different songs. She starts with "I Do", a raunchy Top 40 Hit, fantastic with an interesting bassline. She continues with "Falling in Love", a song which, probably has the lyrics of the century (The time between meeting / and finally leaving / is sometimes called falling in love) . And if that isn't enough, she turns to the piano for "Truthfully" giving this radio-friendly love song a nice feel. Next is the incredible "Let's Forget About It" - uptempo, fast, witty.
"How" could be considered one of the most beautiful songs ever written. For the most part, Lisa plays the acoustic guitar, and occasionally the band chimes in for the chorus. But nevertheless it is a touching, heartfelt song about the outside world looking at you, and the feeling of not being understood - something we all can relate to. With "Furious Rose" she tells the story of man's fear of something which we do not understand - a psychiatrist diagnoses the woman in the song as 'crazy', just because she is not understood. "Dance with the Angels" starts out slow, but breaks into a latin-jazzy type of feel with an interesting key change. "Jake" is a sad song, with mainly just Lisa on the guitar.
"Firecracker" is a wise song for a closing. Running at almost 6 minutes, it proves that Lisa's skill did not diminish towards the end of the album. If anything, Firecracker has all the raw Lisa energy that we all know and love.

My only knowledge of Lisa Loeb a few weeks ago was that I had seen a cable interview of her. Glasses to me are a turn on with the right person, but that's all I knew of her. So when I see this CD at a garage sale, with this "just been boinked" look on the cover, it was certainly worth giving it a try. This collection of songs is currently number one as new find of the year for me.
What she does is probably my favorite kind of music. I like the singer-songwriter combination, because you can see exactly what the writer had in mind. Just give me a table in a small club, and the performer with a guitar, and I'm set for the evening.
Of course, the songs have to work for it to work. The most important component in music is the songwriting, and very few people have the talent. Ms. Loeb definately has the talent. Practically every song on the album has a hook that she grabs from several angles, and keeps working. That's the stuff that grabs your attention. Songs like "I Do" and "Truthfully" work this very well.
But she also shows a great amount of depth with songs like "Falling in Love". This story of how easy it is to fall for someone, but lines like "The time between meeting and finally leaving is sometimes called falling in love" shows a wisdom beyond her years. From what I can tell, her other works seem to be also quite good, and I promise myself to rise above garage sale level to seek out more works by this talented artist.
Just hope she doesn't switch to contact lenses.
