3.0 out of 5 stars A Modest Success...
In 1997, I would have given this CD 4 and a half stars. In 1998, 4. So, by 2000, this album has clearly outgrown its welcome, and sounds strangely dated for only three years after release.True enough, Loeb maintains her delightful blend of pop and acoustic mixes. Her huge single "I Do" was a sugary version of "I Will Survive" lyrically, but it...

4.0 out of 5 stars FIRECRACKER, March 18, 2004

I don't know of a more beautiful song than Lisa Loeb's 'How'. It is perfect, brilliant and captivating. I love every inch of it. "Firecracker" is Lisa's second album and it does a great job. Some of the songs I don't see fit for this album but most of the songs do the CD justice. I love Lisa's vocals and acoustic sound. The opener 'I Do' is also an amazing song, especially for an opener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, May 28, 2003

This is one of those rare cd's that can be listened to the whole way through without skipping any songs. I can honestly say that I have had this cd for a long time...and I have never gotten sick of it. It has just the right mixture of uplifting, meaningful, and thoughtful songs. It is very difficult to pick my top five songs on Firecracker, but they would have to be 1) Furious Rose 2)Jake 3) Wishing Heart 4)Falling in Love 5)How
I would suggest this to anyone who wants a diverse record filled with songs to lift your spirits or make you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars oh gosh!! its the best! 10 stars, June 12, 1999

i promise you if you buy this and tails-you will like everysingle song!! this album is not as intimate as tails-and not exactly taking the folk/rock style she had then-, is still i would have to say the 2nd greatest album i've known. (the first is tails) guise-lisa loen truly knows how to catch your ear and her lyrics make you really think. you never wanna stop listening to it. "Frecracker," "Truthfully," "Let's forget about it," "FURIOUS ROSE!" and especially "I do." rock!!!!!!!! the only song on this album (in fact the only song out of all of her songs that was a bit of a let down was 'jake') but buy this album, its the best....and remember to get tails too. p.s. does anyone know if shes writing a new album?

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Loeb's Voice Is As Beautiful As That of a Greek Siren, March 11, 2002

Cliched as it may be, "amazing" is the only word that may accurately describe Lisa Loeb's second album. Whereas many artists suffer the "sophomore jinx," never to be heard from again, Lisa Loeb returns with style and grace. Loeb's musical style has evolved immeasurably - the CD has more of an acoustic sound to it, allowing the meaningful lyrics to stand out and shine, while the mature instrumentals add further depth. Personally, this is my favorite album of Lisa's for the aforementioned reasons, and, though teenyboppers might be a bit disappointed, perhaps this album will help them appreciate artful music. And if not, I'm sure they'll grow into it. This CD gets my highest possible rating.....and then some.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful through and through; no flaws here, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Firecracker (Audio CD)
A fine singer-songwriter with a sweet, candy-coated voice that belies the 29 years old that she was when she made this album, Lisa Loeb first hit big with the song "Stay" from her 1995 album "Tails," and established herself as a talented and heartfelt lyricist. This album, in my opinion, is best carried by songs like "I Do" and "Falling In Love," which have sunny guitars and her most cheerful, upbeat singing, but even dark, brooding selections like "Furious Rose" and "Jake," are beautifully written and sang with sincere, lilting angst.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Your life is built on accidents - like meeting me...", May 16, 2006
This review is from: Firecracker (Audio CD)
Lisa Loeb's second album, Firecracker has 12 great tracks but some of the songs took awhile to grow on me but songs I loved right away include: Falling in Love, Jake, I Do, Let's Forget About It, Truthfully, Furious Rose,This and How. Loeb has a beautiful and rich voice, her lyrics are poetic and haunting. From the song Falling in Love, "The gray sky was romantic 'cause he was holding her hand, he was her man, the time between meeting and finally leaving is sometimes called falling in love." The title-track gives me the chills, the chorus is amazing. Truthfully is such a gentle and sweet song, so much better than I thought it was, "You showed up with your parachute..." If you like deep, meaningful, and poetry-like lyrics then Firecracker is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars furios lisa with her horn rimmed eyes, December 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Firecracker (Audio CD)
this c.d. was awesome. it was my first lisa album, but stay got me hooked...truthfully and lets forget about are poppy but dont let me down...FUrious rose was way out in front of all the other songs with strong orchestration...a really hard word. Agrimony-of or relating to the rose family of flowers and foliage// and the lyrics are deep and haunting...while the song firecracker let me down the rest of the album made up for it 11 fold...if you want to be taken somewhere through music buy this! lets not forget about this great line----dream of the frog legs sitting in the church in the glass in the sand where my foot steps or do you dream of the angels in the sky can you see me i float in skys in your eyes....

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-mainstream..., September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Firecracker (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic CD! You have to listen to it a few times to really appreciate it. "I Do", and "Truthfully" are pretty good if you're feeling happy, while "Falling in Love" and "Dance with the Angles" are for more melancholy moods. The best song on the CD is undoubtably "Furious Rose". No matter what you're in the mood for, this is a great CD, even if you don't know what "agrimony" means...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sophomore Album, November 21, 2001
By
Steven Clark (Utah United States) - See all my reviews

This is a great sophomore effort from Lisa Loeb. You will find Lisa experimenting with strings/orchestra arrangements which adds a certain quality to the CD that isn't found on the first album, "TAILS." This CD was one that grew on me. The more you listen to the songs and hear all the production and work that went into each track, you appreciate it more and more! You realize why it was nominated for a Grammy for "best engineered album - non classical" or whatever they call the category! Be on the look out for Lisa Loeb's new, THIRD album, "CAKE AND PIE" ... In my opinion, it is one of her best CD's so far! "EAT YOUR VEGETABLES NOW BECAUSE DESSERT IS ON ITS WAY!"
