5.0 out of 5 stars Anyone working should read this book, December 14, 2006

This review is from: Fired, Laid Off or Forced Out: A Complete Guide to Severance, Benefits and Your Rights When You're Starting Over (Paperback)
Regardless of your current employment status, one must read this book. It is excellent guide on what to do to protect one's best interests when it comes to salary negotiation for the new job, or severance negotiation when a job is lost. If you are in the rush and want to just skim the book read the tips at the end of the each chapter and that will have to determine if you need to read all of it or some of it. My advice however would be read the book cover to cover because you could only wish to have Richard Busse is your employment lawyer. If you are 40 or older you definitely want to read this book and better yet, keep it in your library for a refresher reads in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand up for yourself., April 9, 2010

This review is from: Fired, Laid Off or Forced Out: A Complete Guide to Severance, Benefits and Your Rights When You're Starting Over (Paperback)
I was being subtley pushed out of a company for no good reasons except that I was not Big 10 slack jawed hick like the rest of the group. This book made me aware of my rights and how to subtley and diplomatically let the company know I was keeping track of their questionable actions and documenting all their clearly less favorable treatment of me as compared to the rest of similarly situated employees. It really worked, they backed and started treating me alot better. I think these techniques will work better for larger companies with large HR departments and coorporate reputations at stake. My advice is not to make threats but to raise your empoyers awareness that you are aware of your rights and tactifully document in subtle emails and perforamnce reviews any wrong doings. Once you have compiled enough of these it is time to show them all to HR when they start pushing you out a little too hard ( More projects, less support than colleagues, double standards, passed over for opportuntiies, it adds up).

So forget about what your pappy told ya bout workin hard, sometimes no matter how hard ya work, someones not gonna do ya right....so stand up for yourself. From what I've seen with others, they will at least give you a larger severance payout.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hands-on advice on how to deal with being fired, April 16, 2007
This review is from: Fired, Laid Off or Forced Out: A Complete Guide to Severance, Benefits and Your Rights When You're Starting Over (Paperback)
If you're in danger of losing your job, Richard C. Busse provides advice about how to turn things around and improve your relationships at work. If you do lose your job, he explains how to cope with termination, negotiate the best settlement and understand your rights. He answers many questions about U.S. employment laws and how they differ from state to state. We recommend this book to anyone who fears he or she may be "fired, laid-off or forced out" of a job, now or in the future. Managers, supervisors and human resource professionals will also find useful tips about legal issues and conducting performance evaluations properly, so they can avoid the risk of wrongful termination lawsuits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Advice, May 9, 2008
This review is from: Fired, Laid Off or Forced Out: A Complete Guide to Severance, Benefits and Your Rights When You're Starting Over (Paperback)
I thought this book was helpful, but is not in depth enough to really help with my situation. It is well written and deals with issues other than the one I am looking at personally, but I am sure others will find it helpful.

But, there is alot of other stuff in it, that is just good to know
