4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, But Could Have Been So Much Better
Having been a fan for many years, I welcomed this anthology with open arms. Like so many other country-pop-rock bands of the time (Orleans, Mason Proffit, Marshall Tucker Band, Pousette-Dart Band), Firefall boasted savvy pop smarts, agile performers and casual-as-a-summer-breeze songs that occasionally boasted a little bit o'spunk. So, this set comes along and offers...

2.0 out of 5 stars This may be an improvement over what I bought 20 years ago
As at least one reviewer pointed out, the version of this that I bought was disappointing. A lot of the songs were watered down and cut off. Who I wonder was the brain dead moron that cut the intro to Cinderella off? As was pointed out, Strange Way also endured this fate and others as well.

I see that in the songlist here that it says album version by all...

So, this set comes along and offers fans the chance to hear all the band's great songs in a single session. And they're all here: "Just Remember I Love You", "You're The Only Woman" and, of course, my all time fave, "Strange Way". But, imagine my disappointment at hearing the watered down, badly butchered U.S. 45 RPM edition of "Strange Way". The album cut was a keeper: a "Witchy Woman"-like hit with great string arrangements and a gorgeous flute solo towards the song's end. Sadly, that eye-opening cut isn't the one that appears here. And maybe you'll think I'm being too much of a sourpuss, but that omission is just inexusable if you're a fan...and I am. Someone at Rhino should really make an effort and fix that problem. When they do, I'll gladly give this set the five stars it so rightfully deserves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth your money, October 25, 2004
This review is from: Firefall - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This collection of material by Firefall is well worth your money, IF you were a fan of the country rock sound (Eagles, Poco, Pure Prarie League, Flying Burrito Brothers, Byrds) that was so popular in the '70s. I hear the 'big two' radio friendly songs, ("Just Remember I Love You", and "You Are The Woman") in dentists' offices now.. which is really out of context.. Growing up in the '70s.. those songs sounded really good wrapped around Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy.. or the other rock songs of the day.. I know that "Just Remember I Love You" was a song that my girlfriend and I danced and kissed to.. and hearing it today brings back great memories. "Cinderella" and "Strange Way" were also favorites of mine.. and like another reviewer, I wish they had included the full length version of the song on this album... It was always special to hear the full length version on the radio.. (some stations always played single versions of "Stairway to Heaven", "Freebird"... "Kiss You All Over".. and that always ticked me off).. To the guy that gave this album one star..everyone has their own tastes.. for people who like the above mentioned music..this is well worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, August 18, 2003

This review is from: Firefall - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Please pardon me for reviewing a review, but some of the other reviews on this album have been so lame. I came of age when firefall was a new thing, and we were amazed at the time at the textures, the beauty, and the understated power of this music. One of the reviews I read said that most of these cuts could have been filler on an eagles album- well, the eagles may have had a few filler tunes, but their albums, like this one, were soothingly listenable from start to finish. Over the years since I bought this disk it has been a perrineal favorite of mine and Cinderella is just plain [cool.] If you like good seventies rock, BUY THIS DISK!! You won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really smooth-flow to this CD., November 12, 1998

Firefall is a band that most folks overlook outside of Seventies compilation CDs. There is a whole side to this band that didn't make it into the public consciousness, and this CD exhibits it perfectly. Enjoy the top 10 singles but spend your flights and your office hours with the entire CD - you will find yourself leaving the settings on "repeat entire CD".

5.0 out of 5 stars Firefall's GH Collection is Terrific!, October 19, 2004

This review is from: Firefall - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I was a fan of Firefall in the late 1970's, in high school. I decided to revisit their popular songs and maybe find a few songs I didn't know. I was very pleasantly surprised! You can almost let the CD play without interruption. Newly discovered songs like Someday Soon, It Doesn't Matter and Livin' Ain't Livin' are great songs. Rick Robert's voice and song-writing rivals anything from that era. I would strongly recommend this CD to Firefall fans or just fans of good harmonies and vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars on fire, February 29, 2000

excellent cd. Firefall is one of those bands that had a hook that once you heard it, you knew who it was, even if you never heard the song. Firefall's hook is their strumming acoustic rhythmns.Signature songs include: "you are the woman" "strange way" and "just remember i love you" I also liked the song "goodbye, i love you". The band isnt country, or southern rock, they have their own sound that is truely a joy to listen to. For those of us who like 70's era music, those of us that grew up in this era, those of us that cant relate to the music of today, you can come home again with Firefall-greatest hits. An excellent addition to yuor cd library. I gave this one 5 stars.

If you are a Firefall fan you will love this CD. It has all the best hits from their song catalog. I enjoy listening to this CD from beginning to end. There are 18 tracks on this CD making it well worth the price, a must for your CD collection. I would give this CD five stars, but I reserve that kind of recognition for truly exceptional things.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Strange Way" The Weakest ?!, May 15, 2001
By

Nine of the eighteen songs on this album made the top forty billboard charts. "You Are The Woman" went highest, to #9, and is one of my all-time romantic favorites. I had not previously heard many of these songs, however, and there were some wonderful surprises. If you're a fan of Crosby, Stills & Nash harmonies, you'll love "Sweet And Sour" and "Break Of Dawn," the latter including the inimitable Stephen Stills on vocals and rhythm guitar. "Love That Got Away" is irresistible, with stunning and spirited flute accompaniment. My favorite is "Someday Soon," a beautifully orchestrated, heart-wrenching ballad that promises better life and love in the future. "Always" is another soulful ballad, with none other than David Sanborn on alto saxophone. My least favorite selection is their #11 hit "Strange Way" -- and that may mostly be due to radio overplay -- but that should give you an idea of how good the rest of this album is. It unquestionably deserves five stars.

These songs are masterful! Some 70's country rock never dies. Quite a few of my FireFall favorite poetic verse were overlooked (ie: Ol' Wing Mouth - written by Jimmy Webb...), but short of getting out the old vinyl... this satisfies a yearning for a blast from the past! Great flute solos!
