The installation instructions are sparse. It would have been helpful to know that to install the unit, you should remove the panel completely and not just fold it down. On my fireplace, removing the panel was simple: I opened the panel all the way and pulled out a retaining pin from each of the two hinge pins; then I rocked the panel a bit as I pulled out the hinge pins.It would also have been helpful to know that when you slide in the motor assembly, you should slide it in at the far left side of the opening (not just "to the left of the valve" as the instructions said). You need the unit to clear the solid gas line that goes to the valve. But most helpful would have been for the kit to have included the correct size nuts. There were six nuts included, which is the correct count, but only one was the correct size of 10-24. The other five nuts were all 10-32 -- the nuts should go on easily, so do NOT (repeat NOT!) try to force on any nuts. I went to Home Depot to get the correct size nuts, but they don't carry that particular kind of nut. So I went to Ace Hardware and found them in one of the many boxes of specialty fasteners they carry. To make sure I bought the correct size, I borrowed a 10-24 screw and spun each nut onto it. That was a good thing, because the 10-24 and 10-32 nuts were in side-by-side boxes and were mixed in with each other. The installation instructions also don't explain how the unit works. You need to know that the blower does NOT turn on when the gas turns on. Instead, it turns on when the temperature in the firebox gets hot enough, which is 5-10 minutes after you turn on the fireplace. The kit includes a temperature sensor that you attach to the bottom of the firebox (the top of the opening) that determines when the fan should go on. And it stays on after you turn off the flame, until the firebox cools down. The best tool to have for installation is a 3/8" ratcheting wrench; second best is a 3/8" combination wrench. Nut drivers are too long to fit in the space. Worst would be an adjustable wrench, and if you use one, it better be very short. If you have the correct parts and tools, and if you follow the instructions carefully, installation should take 10-15 minutes. The fan is a little noisier than I would like, but it's not bad on a low setting. (The other reviewers gave me fair warning about the noise.) This fan uses a "squirrel cage" design. I've seen fireplace fans that claim to be quieter because they use pancake fans (like computer fans) but I just wasn't comfortable buying a fan that was not specifically made for my fireplace.

The product arrived on time and in perfect condition. Mounted up perfectly with the fireplace. There was no electrical run to the fireplace from my builder so instead of wiring up the box inside the base of the fireplace, I made a new electrical box downstairs and plugged it in there (it comes with a "3 prong" grounded plug!!). The only complaint is the noise of the unit... not the most quiet I've ever heard, but it is a fan, and it's going to make some noise!

This blower works great. Make sure you clean out all the cobwebs and crap so it blows to the best of its ability. I sit about 6 feet from it when I watch TV and can hear it mainly when it's on its highest setting, but it's just a hum, so not a big deal. Love the fact that it has a magnet(No rattling).
