The installation instructions are sparse. It would have been helpful to know that to install the unit, you should remove the panel completely and not just fold it down. On my fireplace, removing the panel was simple: I opened the panel all the way and pulled out a retaining pin from each of the two hinge pins; then I rocked the panel a bit as I pulled out the hinge pins.
It would also have been helpful to know that when you slide in the motor assembly, you should slide it in at the far left side of the opening (not just "to the left of the valve" as the instructions said). You need the unit to clear the solid gas line that goes to the valve. But most helpful would have been for the kit to have included the correct size nuts. There were six nuts included, which is the correct count, but only one was the correct size of 10-24. The other five nuts were all 10-32 -- the nuts should go on easily, so do NOT (repeat NOT!) try to force on any nuts. I went to Home Depot to get the correct size nuts, but they don't carry that particular kind of nut. So I went to Ace Hardware and found them in one of the many boxes of specialty fasteners they carry. To make sure I bought the correct size, I borrowed a 10-24 screw and spun each nut onto it. That was a good thing, because the 10-24 and 10-32 nuts were in side-by-side boxes and were mixed in with each other. The installation instructions also don't explain how the unit works. You need to know that the blower does NOT turn on when the gas turns on. Instead, it turns on when the temperature in the firebox gets hot enough, which is 5-10 minutes after you turn on the fireplace. The kit includes a temperature sensor that you attach to the bottom of the firebox (the top of the opening) that determines when the fan should go on. And it stays on after you turn off the flame, until the firebox cools down. The best tool to have for installation is a 3/8" ratcheting wrench; second best is a 3/8" combination wrench. Nut drivers are too long to fit in the space. Worst would be an adjustable wrench, and if you use one, it better be very short. If you have the correct parts and tools, and if you follow the instructions carefully, installation should take 10-15 minutes. The fan is a little noisier than I would like, but it's not bad on a low setting. (The other reviewers gave me fair warning about the noise.) This fan uses a "squirrel cage" design. I've seen fireplace fans that claim to be quieter because they use pancake fans (like computer fans) but I just wasn't comfortable buying a fan that was not specifically made for my fireplace.

The product arrived on time and in perfect condition. Mounted up perfectly with the fireplace. There was no electrical run to the fireplace from my builder so instead of wiring up the box inside the base of the fireplace, I made a new electrical box downstairs and plugged it in there (it comes with a "3 prong" grounded plug!!). The only complaint is the noise of the unit... not the most quiet I've ever heard, but it is a fan, and it's going to make some noise!

This blower works great. Make sure you clean out all the cobwebs and crap so it blows to the best of its ability. I sit about 6 feet from it when I watch TV and can hear it mainly when it's on its highest setting, but it's just a hum, so not a big deal. Love the fact that it has a magnet(No rattling).

I purchased the fireplace blower to add to an existing Majestic Fireplace in the house I recently purchased. The item arrived in three days, and installed easily as per the enclosed instructions. There was no problem with the nuts fitting as described in previous reviews, and the noise is minimal for a blower of this type.
I would recommend this blower to anyone who wanted to get more heat out of their fireplace.

This fireplace blower was wonderful and was delivered even before the time we were told. Nothing negative to report so far.

So I purchased this fireplace blower with a little hesitation based on some of the reviews (noise, problems with installation, wrong parts coming with the blower, etc). I was pleasantly surprised. The blower was actually ridiculously easy to install (and this is coming from someone with little "handyman" ability). I didn't have to remove the lower door of my fireplace like someone else described. The unit slid easily into place. And there was nothing to do but fit the 3 parts over the already existing screws, and put on the 6 nuts that were included with the blower. The only installation problem I had was that my builder did not hook-up the electrical outlet that is under the fireplace (and of course, that is not the fireplace blower's fault). It took me a moment to locate where the temperature gauge was supposed to go. The instructions gave me the impression that it was supposed to be a bit further back than it really is. The two screws for the temperature gauge under my fireplace are in the center close to the front of the unit.
I did run into a slight problem with the first blower I received. It was MUCH louder than I had anticipated. I was fearful that the other reviewers' comments about the noise were truer to life than I had thought. There was a crazy mechanical clicking sound when it ran. I called Electric Motor Wharehouse, and they immediately sent me a replacement blower with no hassle (even though I had purchased it through the Amazon website). I was easily able to uninstall the first unit and install the replacement unit. I was afraid that I would have a repeat performance with the replacement unit, but the replacement unit works perfectly, and is quieter than I had expected. I thought that I had it on the low setting when it was actually on the highest setting, and I was thinking to myself, "that isn't bad; it is pretty quiet." The low setting was obviously even quieter. Now it isn't silent by any means; you can hear a low rumbling noise, but it isn't bad at all. I was very happy with Electric Motor Wharehouse. Their customer service was great, and they didn't hassle me at all about replacing the blower. Overall a good experience, and a good purchase.

A aftermarket item that actually fits.,
This review is from: Fireplace Blower for Majestic FK24; Rotom Replacement # R7-RB65
The fan was easy to install and was made to fasten to existing threaded studs in our gaslog fireplace housing that were put there by the factory for the fan. Our fireplace now heats the whole area much better. I wish the fan was silent or could make wood burning sounds. If they can mimic the taste of watermellon they should be able to mimic the sound of wood burning, but all in all we are very satified.

Installed per instructions, but fan has a loud hum at all speeds except OFF. Not an air movement sound, a motor hum sound. All connections are tight. Don't know if this is a product problem or just amplification of normal noise. After all, the fireplace is 100% sheet metal and adding a fan turns it into a giant speaker.
E-mailed manufacturer-they offered to replace fan. It was a difficult installation and I don't look forward to removing-mailing-waiting-reinstalling just to find out the noise is normal. Does move air even at low-medium speeds to warm the room more efficiently than the fireplace did with no fan. |
