This review is from: Firepower Hb (Hardcover)
This is a technical treatise on the weapons of European armies and their effectiveness. There is perhaps a bit more speculation and "fudge factor" mathematics than one would like, but it is hard to imagine how this could be improved.
I do not know of any other works which cover this material, at least not in detail; certainly not as the primary subject. For anyone who wants to be reasonably well informed about the artillery and shoulder weapons of the 17th through 19th Centuries, this book is very good. The illustrations are black and white. They range from contemporary battlefield drawings through technical "blueprints" to simplified battle diagrams. Many are extremely informative and useful. Some are reproductions of color works, which are so difficult to interpret that they might better have been left out. This unevenness of the graphic elements is my biggest complaint about the book. |
