Author Tom Buford explores the interesting concept of how the battle between good and evil takes place by alternating between the spirit realm a and the earthly realm, much like Frank Perretti. He realistically addresses the subject of pornography, homosexuality, addiction, and drug use, without resorting to condemnation. Buford offers hope through these fictional characters as many real-life testimonies support the fictional premise.

Cory Nebraska is the town that everyone wants to live in. It is quiet, friendly, and neighborly without the big-city vices-until a demonic army lays claim, focusing its battle on Douglas and Amy Canton, a young married couple expecting their first child.

The supporting characters in the book represent people in modern society who are easy to identify with:

Grandy is a lovable older man who faithfully attends church and keeps himself away from temptation. But it is soon revealed that he collects pornography and feels helpless to overcome the addiction. He thought he had it conqueror do, until the demonic army said in two plays a series of events that triggered his craving.

Carson is a young man, a schoolmate of Douglas, convinced from boyhood he is not right sexually and succumbs to the lure of homosexuality.

Douglas thinks he is happily married. At least he thought so, until a glimpse all of two males and a pornographic magazine ignites conflicting emotions and he finds himself attracted to Carson.

Pastor Dewey as a recovering addict and able to share his own fight and offer forgiveness and unconditional love as well as a way out.

Mrs. Osborne is also important as she takes Amy under her wing and teaches her to be a prayer warrior and how to offer unconditional love to her husband, Douglas, as he fights his way to victory there for the dark forces.

Fires of Darkness is an important book for both believers and nonbelievers as it challenges readers to explore the "what if?" scenario of different types of sexual addiction, the power of prayer, and the spiritual battle that takes place daily.

Tom Buford has not only written a very entertaining book, but an important one as well. There is a darkness sweeping across our land but there is power available to dispell that darkness. This book has it all - demons and warriors locked in a desperate struggle.

I loved it. Not because it's a spiritual shoot'em up, but because it is also a book of light,hope and love.

Thought provoking - soul searching - turn you upside down -life changing! Tom Buford, the author, has used his life experience, that took him beyond the gates of hell and back, to write a book that induces self evaluation from a new dimension. He proves with each page that Fact is stranger than Fiction! This story could take place anywhere and could happen to anyone of us. If there were more Mrs. Osborn's in this world, drugs, pornography, violence, and all things evil would not prevail. Each character walks in our day to day life and you find yourself comparing them to those around you. My thought process and perspective on many things are forever changed by this book. This writing reinforces that it is never too late to go toward the light, no matter how black the darkness!

Mr. Buford has a real skill - bringing a very serious Christian moral issue to light in an entertaining fashion. I would feel very good about recommending this book to any young or old person as a novel to read over holidays or on a weekend. I couldn't put it down the first time that I read it. Great characters and a great plot. I hope that Tom writes another novel soon!

This book has a message that will enlighten anyone to the danger of pornographic material.Tom Buford knows by experience and has this great talent to convey to the reader with words that keep the pages turning. Fiction is at its best when real world truths are revealed. A must read for our world today.
