Book Description

December 10, 2002
Mitch Schultz received within a short period of time, two immense blows. Both his wife, Elaine, as well as their twelve-year old son, Travis, are diagnosed with brain tumors. Elaine lives, after a very serious operation. Travis dies. The suffering they experience could bring a person to the conclusion that God doesn't care about what happens in their lives. In Does God Care? Mitch Schultz describes in dairy form, in an honest and open manner how they were all drawn closer to God as a family. His picture of God as a loving, caring God, who is involved in our suffering, is not weakened, but rather strengthened by these experiences. He has discovered anew who this God is whom he has known for years. Mitch and his wife, Elaine, along with their two other children Breanna and Brett now live near Milwaukee Wisconsin where Mitch serves as a pastor. Previous to this Mitch served for six years as a pastor in Warrington England with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Mitch grew up in Irian Jaya, Indonesia to missionary parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enriched my view of who God really is, June 1, 2003

This review is from: Fires of Sorrow (Paperback)
The author (Mitch Schultz) writes so openly and honestly about going through tradgedy with God. Very powerful and hard-hitting. I couldn't help but cry at times and re-examine my own views of who God is and why bad things seem to happen to good people. Thanks for sharing this book with us, Mitch, and letting God speak to us through your life and your pain...

This book is written in the form of a journal as Mitch and his family struggle through the near-death of his wife and death of their son. The author puts together his journal entries (drafted during the crisis) into book form, with insights and scripture references through-out.

Although Mitch offers no easy answers or solutions as to why God allows such suffering in the world, he takes us through how the struggle impacted him and deepened his faith - and his resolve to serve a God we can ultimately trust. He concludes that though we can know God and trust Him with our lives, we canot always understand Him. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord."
