This was actually 3 love stories in one. Maggie and King James, Anne and Andrew, and Kathryn and Donovan. Two of the three were interesting. Anne and Andrew were a little stale after a while. I can only handle so much mush without any mental conflict. I like a bit of conflict in my romances and Kathryn and Donovan had tons of that. The historical aspect of the book was great. The politics were even interesting. I did think that the book was a bit long. The inner turmoil of the characters was a bit repetitive. A bit more editing would have made this a 5 star book.

I liked this book. It was a pretty good read. I am into history, and that was a big part of this book. I especially liked the part about King James, and Maggie. That was touching. I really liked the character Anne. She was beautiful in every way. I felt she was more believable than any of the other characters. I did not like Kathryn though. She was too prideful and kind of bitchy to me. I also didn't like Donavan. He was a real jerk, even for a guy of that day and age. I didn't like the way one minute everything was in turmoil and the next it was all fine and dandy between those two. Those two said some pretty nasty things to each other. I don't know that I could forgive that quickly. If you like Historical Romance's then this is your book.

This book was not only a wonderfully written story, but the description of places, people, and the time frame that was in it, just is so incredible that you can't put it down. You just try and it is like it keeps calling you back and even when you finish it you want to turn around and read all over again. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to be swept away into every woman's fansty.
