Beautiful, Well Written Book,
This review is from: Fireside Stories (Hardcover)
I just received this book in the mail yesterday and I LOVE IT. It's absolutely beautiful. I propped it up on my mantle so we remember to take it down to read. We read the first story aloud last night and it was written so well and a joy to read aloud. The illustrations are warm and beautiful.
This is one of my favorite books for sharing as a family.

Heartwarming stories for a winter eve.,
By E. Wilfong "Sparrow" (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fireside Stories (Hardcover)
Beautiful illustrations make these winter tales come to life. The stories are short enough to read aloud to children, or for family story time--a wonderful way to begin family conversations. Most of the stories were new to me and yet all convey universal themes. I highly recommend this book to those who love stories and story-telling.

Gorgeous, well-written and refreshing,
This review is from: Fireside Stories (Hardcover)
I bought this for my 7-year-old and 4-year-old and it has been quite a hit. The illustrations are beautiful. As with most Barefoot anthologies it does an excellent job of helping younger readers stay engaged with longer, more complex stories through the rich illustration on every page and the perfect telling of the tale. Another excellent Barefoot Book!

Tales for winter holidays from Halloween to spring,
By alexxcz "alexxcz" (Baltimore, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fireside Stories (Hardcover)
"In some cultures, it is considered unlucky to tell stories about snow and winter at another time of year" warns the intro for this wonderful collection of winter-time folk tales. Pairing traditional tales with the holidays and events of the dark half of the year, the book brings a new understanding to the turning of the wheel of the seasons. Each story is introduced with a fabulous page explaining the history and practice of each event it is joined with - from Halloween, to first snow, to Christmas, to 12th night, to Candlemass and so on. The stories can be enjoyed separately, or read in order to bring a journey through the turning of the winter months. The many full-page illustrations, as rich and bright as a stained-glass window, make it a joy to read and share with the many little ones who might like a tale on a winter's night -- or any other night.
