Fredro isn't gonna win any originality contests but...,

Well his lyrical content is very standard hip hop. At least in Onyx he was more interesting to listen to. And the beats are plain, nothing special. There was no single track that really hit me on this CD. Don't get me wrong it dosen't S**K but if you are into hip hop then this one is the same ole same ole. I liked the first 2 onyx albums and I liked fredro in Strapped and Sunset Park, but he just dosent come strong on this one. Maybe next time.

What are people going on about? This cd is hot. Fredro may not be screaming, but so what. All the songs on this album are good, but these are some of the best tracks on this cd. What if, dying 4 rap, and the song he sings with Jill Scott. The last thing I want to say is that Fredro Starr is sooooooooooooooo hot!

I have read several of the reviews about this album and I could not disagree more. The lyrics and expressions contained within are mindblowing. Sure they fit into the typical gangsta rap cliche, however Fredro brings somthing new and fresh. He provides a good "commercial" beat while maintaining the thug appeal. The reason that anyone would toss this joint a poor review is simply this... They dont listen to the lyrics. The catchy beats and clever manipulation of words is definitly HOTT!buy this album.. good people!

Fredro Starr is one of the best Mcs out of Onyx right? Right. That means that this album should have been great right? Yeah. Then why is it criminally suspect? Your guess is as good as mine. After a very cocky intro, three of the best tracks would appear. Dyin 4 Rap, What If and Thug Warz feat Outlawz. Dyin 4 Rap is what the majority of this album should have sounded like. What If is one of the question asking songs where Fredro ponders on different subjects. Thug Warz is a tight collabo with The Outlawz. It all goes downhill from there. Perfect B**** is horrible and kind of creepy. Any DJ who was bold enough to play Electric Ice(feat Mieva and X1) and Dat B Dem in a club would have gotten a pair of Tims shoved up his a** like a suppository. Who F*** Betta would get you seriously laughed at by that significant other. Fredro wastes a dope beat on Big Shots feat Big Sin with lazy raps. Even the collaboration with Sticky Fingaz and X1 called Soldierz is straight up buttcrack. One Night with Begetz, Vesatile and a pathetic appearance by Ice-T is just as butt as Soldierz. The Dyin 4 Rap remix with Capone, Nore, Young Noble and Cuban Link is pretty good. Aaron Hall ruined any chance that I Dont Wanna had with his awful singing/yelling. The album ends with a good cut called Shining Through. Bottom Line: Firestarr is a tepid release from an MC who should have been capable of much better work. The lyrics were lazy and the beats were generic and stale. If he would have shaved the album down to that best 5 songs(Dyin 4 Rap, Dyin 4 Rap remix, What If, Thug Warz and Shining Through)on the album and shaved off the filler, this would have been a great EP. Instead he goes for commercial appeal and falls on his face hard. Fredro Starr is one of the illest MCs out of Onyx but this album and his second album prove that he cant make a great album by himself. Standouts: DYIN 4 RAP(original and remix), WHAT IF, THUG WARZ and SHINING THROUGH.

This CD was just off the hook. It's sicker than the plague. I just picked up this, Jay-Z's new CD, Foxy's new CD, and JT Money's new CD. After listening to each CD 3 times over, they didn't even compare to this one. Definately one of my favorite CD's to date.

grimy style to make him complete, and the commercial love type tracks could have been left off this album for sure. I also am dissapointed on the beat of "Soldiers", which could have been the best song on the album featuring Sticky Fingaz, and Dying for rap needs a more rugged type beat as well, instead of a Swizz Beatz sounding beat. I really enjoy listening to Big Shots, What If, Dat Be Dem, Dying 4 Rap Rmx, Thug Warz w/Outlawz and a few more are tollerable to listen to. I think that Fredro could have had some better guest appearances, and Electric Ice is a good example when the girl screws up the whole damn song. Fredro just got his own label which is promising, and I hope he can come with more than this to please his longtime Onyx fans, hopefully this is just the first of many from his label. Fredro was on tv the other day talking about his label, and he said that Onyx will drop on Other Peoples Money sometime late this year, and Stickys solo lp will be distributed by Columbia/Other Peoples Money, hopefully the future will be brighter with these lps dropping this year, as for Fredro better luck next time with the lp my mans. I give this 3 1/2 because I am the biggest Onyx fan since day one, but Fredro needs his grimy screamin voice back to please us fans.

Yeah I am a big fan of Onyx and after hearin Sticky Fingaz new cd (bootlegged of course) I knew (thought is a better word) that this cd was gonna be ill just like sticky.Surprisingly, I was wrong, after hearin mixtape played out "Dying 4 Rap", all I hear is average songs with so-so production. I wont lie, "What If" is a ok song, but i wouldnt listen to it twice. The rest of the cd is just average, "Perfect -----" is ok, but "Electric Ice", "Big Shots," dont do anythin for me. Personally, I think he should have taken more time on this cd, it could have been one of the illest of 2001. Keyword, could have been. |
