4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, some good Christian Writers January 17, 2005
Format:Paperback
Prison did not hold Julio Vargas, Sara Conner's deadliest enemy. He has been bought out of the prison and is paid to train an elite group of terrorists-a group like the United States Special Forces.

Sara Conner is unaware of Vargas's release from the prison and settles into her new life as a teacher and independent woman. With her newfound confidence and sense of self, she contemplates a new relationship with DEA agent Doug Bradford. But Bradford turns up missing.

Written off by his own agency as dead, no one bothers to look for Bradford, or to investigate his disappearance. In the DEA's eyes, Bradford is following his own agenda, and they don't appreciate it.

But Sara Conner isn't buying it. Bradford is the most trustworthy person she knows. She begins her own investigation, which uncovers information the DEA missed, and she and two agents set off to trace Bradford's last steps.

"Firestorm" follows on the heels of "Crossfire," which introduces Sara Conner and her unwitting marriage into a family of criminals that DEA Doug Bradford brings to justice.

Windle's knowledge of Columbia and Bolivia bring to life rich details of this area of the world famous for its constant conflict, drug smuggling and strife. Readers will feel the cloying heat of the tropics and lose themselves in the pages of a thriller with a Christian hero and heroine.

Intrigue, believable bad guys, smart heroes and God's truth-Firestorm has it all and is written with exceptional skill in an arena that holds the elements of today's world, both good and bad, in a believable and thought provoking test of faith, skill and determination.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting and interesting read October 21, 2004
Format:Paperback
Drug dealing, terrorism, and smuggling are not typically the images that come to mind when you hear the words "Christian Fiction", but in Firestorm (Kregel Publications, July 2004, paperback, 560 pages), author Jeanette Windle captivates readers with a tale of suspense and intrigue that will keep you glued to the pages. Windle, who currently resides in Miami, Florida with her family, spent much of her youth living with her missionary family in parts of South America which are currently in the center of the drug trade. She has managed to fuse her knowledge of the area and her gift for storytelling into a fascinating sequel to her first thriller, Crossfire. Readers will emerge from their experience of having read this book thoroughly satisfied with a story well told, and encouraged by a message of faith and hope.

It is September 18th and Sara Cortez is on a 757 to "freedom" in Miami from South America or so she thinks! Doug Bradford, a DEA agent, has risked everything to secure Sara's freedom.

Julio Vargas, former Cortez security chief and the one who took the fall whilst Sara's brother-in-laws got off the hook, is in jail but suddenly finds that unexpected "family" has purchased his freedom. He is instructed to go to Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. What do they want from him?

Meanwhile, back in Miami, Sara decides she needs to go it alone although she does have feelings for Doug. However after accomplishing this she comes to the realization that she has always been living for the future, not for the now. Doug let her go but also realizes that he does not want any other man to have her. The night before Sara leaves for Washington state to visit family, she meets with Doug and agrees to give him an answer upon her return. What will she find out in Washington? Where will Doug end up whilst Sara is away?

Let's just say that much danger and suspense follow as they discover where Vargas is and eventually discover what he is involved with and whom? What will both of them risk to see justice prevail?

Based during a 10 month time period this book really keeps you on your toes. It is a LONG story but there is so much involved that it is definitely worth the read. Although a work of fiction there are also a lot of facts in this book about the areas visited etc. I found those parts totally fascinating and very interesting. Seeing how God uses them and others through the amazing but realistic trials that they face will certainly challenge you. This book is Christian based but is not preachy.

5.0 out of 5 stars but she's just a great researcher and writer February 9, 2015
By Anita
Format:Kindle Edition
Jeanette Windle does it again! She puts her finger on the pulse of what's happening politically, socially and spiritually in the world, Although written 11 years ago, three years after 9-11, she exposes the face of terrorism. It's just as applicable today as ever considering everything that is going on in the world today. A face paced, action packed FBI, CIA type of page turner with a hero and heroine that she created in the first book I read of hers, Crossfire.Windle weaves in such detail in her writing, even the CIA thinks she has an informant, but she's just a great researcher and writer.Just enough romance threaded throughout to make it more than just a crime novel. Just wish it had been a little shorter, a little bit overdone rather than a mushy middle, but I gave it 5 stars anyway. This one deserved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific storytelling and terrifying concept March 29, 2006
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found this book to be one of the best I've read lately. Don't let the size of the book put you off! It is well worth reading. Jeanette Windle not only shows people growing personally and spiritually, but also discovering relational growth. She also exposes the mind set of those bent on destruction, either through the drug trade or through terrorism, and the lengths that they will go to in order to achieve their goals. She has researched this quite well and combined with her writing skills leaves the reader with the big question of "what if this is true or comes to pass?" All the while she shows us that Jesus is our hope and our deliverer, and the One who can give us peace no matter how our circumstances unfold. I am anxious to see what else Ms. Windle writes!
