Tvangeste,

I still don't know how to pronounce the bandname, but I can define their work; excellent! The guitar and drum work are excellent, the symphonic element adds grandeur and power, dominating and crushing weakness in today's black metal scene. The atheistic lyrics are intelligently written, but the extreme vocals are dry heaving, while still good, need work. The Intro and 'Under The Black Raven's Wings' track leads and violates, eventually leading into elevating madness. "Birth of the Hero" is an anthem to evil, "Fire In Our Hearts" and "Godless Freedom" are mesmerizing. "Storm" intrigues and opens eyes with psychotic themes, and "Tears" closes the opus with majesty and honor. This album is comparable in sound to Dimmu Borgir's "Puritannical Euphoric Misanthropia" and Arcturus' "La Masquerade Infernale", but with more captivating song structures and more operatic themes. An album for any avant-garde black metal fan! Brilliant from start to finish!

This is their second album, and it does vary quite a bit from the first, although they are both great. Here you can see how they have really kicked it up a notch in all areas. This features some incredible orchestrations, but where this differers from a band like Haggard for instance who also utilize a lot of orchestral elements, is that Tvangeste seamlessly integrates all of these incredible orchestral arrangement directly within their songs. This is also backed up by very good male and female choruses combined with black metal shrieks. You will also find a violin solo, flute solo, but no filler material here! Everything here is so refined and the songwriting top notch. Absolutely cannot recommend this band enough, and we can only hope to see a new album from them soon!

Best Black Metal Out There.,

If you like double bass that sounds like it's hammering your chest, but still having it not all be straight forward 8th notes and have the double bass mixed up, great choice.
If you love female operatic vocals and vocals that sound like a old old demon that's been trapped in an abyss for it's entire life, great choice. And great great great classical influences. But unless you want the hard copy don't buy it. Get it free on their website as a zip file. GET THIS ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!

Amazing...,

I am very lucky to have heard of Tvangeste. I absolutley love this album. It is very atmospheric. It keeps me interested the whole way through, unlike some albums that fly over your head when "listening" to them. I also own an earlier album than Firestorm called "Damnation of Regiomontum" (which is not listed on Amazon).
This is also amazing. If you are new to this band, these two cds are a must have for any black metal fans out there.

Wow! I'm speechless! I never hear of Tvangeste before, let me tell you that this is an amazing discovery! Orchestral Symphonic Black Metal at its best, making Cradle of Filth looks like beginners! I'm not joking! For fans of Cradle, Dimmu Borgir and the likes! Imagine those bands with elements a la Therion! Nobody that love this genre will be dissapointed by this release. Crushing heavy riffs with a pure black metal vocals, clean voice, female angelic voice, amazing keyboards, violins, flute and you also have the Baltic symphony Orchestra & the Prussian Chamber Choir! That sounds majestic as hell! High quality writing skills that will probably bring them to the top in the genre. Songs arrangements are top notch and the orchestration as been extremelky well done! Maybe some will say that this concept as been done over and over but not a lot of bands can do quality stuff like Tvangeste. Guitar work is stronger than ever and they wrote a pure masterpiece. Agressive beat with high intensity and beautiful landscape that blew me aways at first listen! I'm not saying that often but for fans of the genre this is a 'Buy or Die!' album! You got a bonus video track also on that CD, isn't it cool?! Powerfull from the beginning to the end, 'firestorm' is a brilliant album that will catch the attention of a lot of people if they got the exposure that they deserve. I heard many people are calling them 'The Prussian Treasure' and now I know why and I'm glad I found that treasure...

This is a good example of how a pupil rarely becomes better than its
teacher. And while it is a bit unfair to explicitely bring the name Cradle of Filth into the equation here, there's no denying where Tvangeste has drawn their inspiration from. The music reflects enough confidence to command a degree of respect and admiration. The band employs an orchestra and a chamber choir into their music, not to mention a wide range of vocal styles, including both shrieky and clean male vocals, regular and operatic-like female vocals, and whispers. We also have the keyboards up front providing sufficient meat to the bones. Did I mention about the violins and flutes? I guess my point is that this is not your typical symphonic metal band. This is much more complex, more audacious and definitely a very enlightening and abstract journey. The affective artistic content within is an inherent pictorial exhortation that has rekindled my faith in a genre that otherwise tends to sound fatigued and optimistic. I am by no means a fan of many of the elements that are combined here, but when it's done well the results can be satisfying. I wouldn't call this black metal either, since this genre in its own right is strictly traditional and primitive, which is how it should be.Just call it highly developed symphonic metal with identity. From Russia with love.

I dont do a lot of reviews, but first off, i buy a lot of compilations to get a feel for some stuff i may otherwise hear, and thats how i heard the song under the black ravens wings. i thought wow, this is pretty good, a little different than other black metal that i was hearing, so i found the cd and bought it. big mistake. the only song i could stomach through, was the one on the compilation. the rest was not good, and im being nice here, i dont like to bash someones music. i still listen to black raven sometimes, but i got rid of the cd pretty quick. i advise to listen to all the songs and then buy what you like.
