Ronie Kendig is at the top of her game with Firethorn!!,
By
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
Anyone who's read anything by Ronie Kendig knows that she can deliver "rapid-fire fiction", and she does not disappoint in Firethorn, the grand finale for the Discarded Heroes series! Open this book and instantly you will be sucked into the latest adventure for the Nightshade team. Except, instead of being sent on a mission...they are the mission--to regroup back together and hunt down whoever tried to permanently dismantle the Nightshade team. What I found most intriguing about Firethorn is that it wasn't just about Griffin (Legend) and Kazi--though they are very central characters--but touches on each one of the members of the Nightshade team. Including their wives. Getting to see the men and their families from previous books--Max and Sydney, Colton and Piper, Canyon and Dani--fight for their livelihood was the most gripping part of the book. After growing so attached to all of them in Nightshade, Digitalis, and Wolfsbane, I was nearly out of my mind with worry when the Nightshade was targeted and the members scattered. Bringing in Kazi--an assassin who's always worked alone--was a really neat twist in contrast to the tight teamwork that Griffin is used to with the Nightshade team. This book almost rivaled Wolfsbane's position as my favorite out of the series. Almost. I admit I was a little depressed on finishing this book--one ending just completely took me by surprise. And while I don't hate the book--by any means!--it still...really saddened me. (No spoilers in this review, so that's all I'm saying!) Ronie Kendig is at the top of her game with Firethorn. The writing grips you, the characters (once again) spring from the pages, and the action is non-stop! It's so hard to believe the Discarded Heroes series has come to an end. The characters have become so special and personal to me! But I know whatever book/series she comes out with next, I am going to love--It's Ronie Kendig we're talkin' about here, a lady who writes my kind of suspense...how can I not?? I reviewed this book for FIRST Wild Card Blog Tours. Special thanks to Ronie Kendig for sending me a review copy. It was not required that I give a positive review, but solely to express my own thoughts and opinions of this book, which I have done.

A fast paced read that will have you hanging on tight!,

You'd better hold on tight because Firethorn is a wild ride that will have you hanging on with white knuckles, as the characters cross continents and oceans to rescue the endangered Nightshade team. You will not want to miss this expolsive conclusion to a terrific series! Not only do we get to explore Griffin's character more, we also get to re-visit other members of the Nightshade team and their families. The characters were wonderfully complex and the action never stopped. Firethorn was strong in every area. Masterfully plotted and executed, as well as both emotionally and spiritually solid, Firethorn is the perfect conclusion to a great series. The writing really gripped me and the fast-paced action kept the pages turning rapidly. I was first introduced to this series by my father who is a bigger fan of the series than I am, and he was really excited to learn that I would be reviewing this book. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone! This book has it all, action, adventure, romance, military suspense, and so well-researched :) I would put out a warning though, that there are some scenes of violence--just to ya'll informed :) Thank you!

What a finish!!!,

This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
I have loved every book in this series and Firethorn is an amazing finish (though I'm sad to say goodbye to this hunky cast of heroes). Ronie Kendig just keeps getting better and better writing action packed stories with heroes and heroines who are so dynamic and engaging. I have left each story with deep attachments to these amazing characters, almost wishing they were real so I could hear an occasional update of how their lives and loves progress! :-)The settings, the conflict, the details in every book are surprising and so thorough. And Firethorn tops them all. I am so thankful Kendig is an author who will produce many books. She just keeps getting better and better.

Phenomenal end to the series!,
By Mocha with Linda (Texas, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
Strap yourself into your seat! This is an adrenaline-laced, action-paced conclusion to Ronie Kendig's phenomenal Discarded Heroes series that will absolutely hold you captive to the page. The covert special ops group's final and most desperate mission is to discover who just blew them apart - but first they have to survive the attack and make it back together. Ronie Kendig is a brilliant author who does not avoid difficult issues and her characters find themselves in the trenches of faith as surely as they dodge bullets. My only caveat: I do not recommend this book for bedtime reading. It's entirely too hard to put down!I received a complimentary copy of this book from Ronie Kendig for review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Wow!,
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
Wow! My first Ronie Kendig book and it was fantastic! Suspense from the beginning and non-stop action! This is the fourth book in the Discarded Heroes series, but Firethorn was great on its own - I didn't feel like I was missing out on much having not read the first three. The Nightshade team was so cool! They were so brave, going into dangerous situations and protecting others. I loved each member of the team! The banter between them was so funny - I seriously laughed a couple of times, especially when they fought over which branch of the military was better (i.e. SEALS, Marines, etc.). There were some surprises in Firethorn that I didn't see coming. I'm not going to say what, because that would spoil it for all of you! :) While there was some sadness, Firethorn was such a great read that I completely recommend it! I hope to read the first three books in this series because I want to know more about Nightshade! *I received a complimentary copy of Firethorn for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

A High-Speed Thrill Ride,
By Carole Towriss (Silver Spring, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
I don't usually read suspense novels, for the same reason I don't ride roller coasters: I don't like my heart in my throat. And that's exactly where my heart was from page one of Firethorn. The love story is dribbled out in this "romantic suspense" book; the suspense clearly predominates. The book is a thrill ride from the get-go. The characters are adrenaline junkies in the purest sense, but they are richly drawn with deep backstories. Due to their troubled pasts, both Griffin and Kazi, the protagonists, have trouble with trust and faith. In this area, this is not a traditional "Christian fiction" novel (nor are any of Kendig's novels), where everyone is always happy and polite and spiritually mature. But the characters behave like all of us. They are not perfect. They stumble and make mistakes and struggle with life. For me, that makes the book all the more enjoyable. By the end they have grown, closer to God and closer to each other. I hadn't read any of the previous three Nightshade novels, but I was able to enjoy and keep up with Firethorn all the same. There are at least three subplots that are all tied together by the end of the book, which at first made it a little difficult for me to keep track of, but by the finale made for quite a satisfying resolution. I highly recommend Firethorn. I have already started one of the first three. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Firethorn by Ronie Kendig5 STARS Firethorn is the last book of the Discarded Heroes series. I have now read only 2 of the 4 but they don't disapoint at all. I liked the book except the part that brought me to tears. Discarded Heroes is about a special black ops team. They are loyal but have some problems and thier families don't all know they are serving are country still. This last book opens with their team under attack at their secret base and some are taken two get out of building before its bombed. Max Jacobs was Navy Seal, Canyon Metcalf was Army Special Forces, Colton Neeley was Marine, Griffen Riddell was Marne, Marshall Vaughn was Army Ranger, John Dighton Navy Seal, Azzan Yasr and General Olin Lambert member of Joint Chiefs of Staff For the past 6 months Griffen Riddell has been locked up prison for killing a U.S. Senator. He has been in isolation because he is very dangerous with his training he is also innocent. The General does not know who took his team but he sent someone to break Griffen out of prison so he can help rescue his team. Kazi who goes by lots of different alias. She does not trust Griffen and he does not know her and hates working in the dark. His team has spread out around the world. They only have a week before Azzan his killed in the middle east. Their is a lot intrique and you don't know who to trust and why the team was taken out. Could not put the book down. I would love to read the first two books of the series. I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest reviews from Netgalley. 01/01/2012 PUB Barbour Publishing, Inc.

The Firethorn Rollercoaster,
By
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
I was thrilled the opportunity to read and review Digitalis, the second in the Discarded Heroes series, and was really looking forward to reading her latest book. It did not disappoint. From the very beginning to the very end, this book is chock-full of adventure and adrenalin. The members of Team Nightshade have been framed and split up and this book details how one little blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, Kazi Faron, with the help of a battered Griffin Riddell, helps bring them all back together. And Griffin, code name Firethorn, is not the only one who's injured. She's battling her own demons and trust issues. But she and Firethorn have help from above and it's this faith-inspiring quality of Ronie's writing that really makes this novel a great read. I love the action in this book, but my favorite part is the complexity of all the characters. Each member of Nightshade, and their families, are recalled in this last book of the series. And each member adds so much to the story. From the light-hearted Kid to the serious Max, each one of these characters are true-to-life. And the most inspiring changes are in the main characters, Kazi and Griffin, as they learn to rely on God and each other. Loved it!

Cover to cover, I don't think I took a single breath.,
By
This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes) (Kindle Edition)
Commitment. Intensity. Pain. Betrayal. Trust. Love. Respect.I could probably write a hundred plus words that would describe the emotions and feelings wrapped up in this book. This story follows Griffin Riddell "Legend". Framed and imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit, all hope is lost. Meanwhile the rest of the Nightshade team has been attacked and scattered around the world. Maimed and missing, only one man knows where they all are and he's not talking. Kazi, or Kacie Whitcomb as she has dubbed herself, is on mission. Her job? To free the Nightshade team. Her reward? Freedom from the chains of slavery. Against almost impossible odds Kazi starts with freeing Legend from a maximum security prison and must keep him in line and under her control as they race across the sea to free the rest of the team. They encounter betrayal, death, and problems bigger than them all. Honestly, I feel that anything I could say about this book would be inadequate. The action, the tension, the intensity grabbed me around the neck squeezing the air from it. Cover to cover, I don't think I took a single breath. Ronie Kendig's tagline is Rapid-Fire Fiction. She is one hundred percent correct in that. If you're not into intense stories with heavy violence and pain, find something else. However, if you are up for the challenge to see what men and women give up everyday for us to enjoy our freedoms, read this book. It barely scratches the surface of the sacrifices made to give us the freedoms we enjoy today, but it paints a very vivid picture. Well done, Ronie Kendig. A great conclusion to a wonderful series. I give it 5 stars. Many thanks to Barbour Publishing for my review copy. All of the opinions here are mine.

Action packed,

This review is from: Firethorn (Discarded Heroes, Book 4) (Paperback)
If you like action then this book is for you. Firethorn is intense from beginning to end with exceptional fight scenes and superb drama. I must admit at times I was a little lost, but that is not the author's fault. I simply had a hard time remembering who was who. By about half-way through I had it straight in my mind, and yes I've read all the books in the series:)I highly recommend reading the entire series from the beginning. They are all can't put down books. |
