Only product you need!,

This review is from: Firewire 800 9-6 Adapter Rohs (Personal Computers)
I had an older digital video camera with a firewire 400 cable. Just bought new Macbook Pro, which only has firewire 800 input. Did some research & I first bought a cable that stated it went from 800 to 400. It did, but both ends were male. Had to return it.
Went to local electronics stores & they were not helpful. Most didn't even know this product existed & they tried to sell me other cables for 20 bucks each! This $8 adapter is ALL you need to go from 400 firewire device into 800 port. Don't let anyone sell you anything else. Just transferred hours of video & it worked great!

The new aluminum iMacs come with a single firewire 400 port and a firewire 800 port. Unfortunately, there's still very little firewire 800 hardware out there, and some of us have a bunch of firewire 400 devices. This adapter works perfectly (at least it has so far) and allows me to now have two reliable firewire 400 connections on the iMac. It should come in the box with every iMac.

Does it's job - just wish it was a little slimmer - I'm a using a 17 mbp unibody and using firewire next to the ethernet port and USB ports is a pretty tight fit

Most of you will choose this item versus others because its shown as White to match your other MAC cables.
When I received mine, they were BLACK in color. This is misleading advertising.

Adapts as expected,
This review is from: Firewire 800 9-6 Adapter Rohs (Personal Computers)
My firewire cable did not fit into the socket on the new IMac. Then I got this. The cable fit in one side, and the other side fit into the socket on the computer. And it worked. The end.

Works as advertised ! A little pricey ! AND longer than I thought it would be. Mine came in WHITE for some reason. I use it with an Intel Mac, and FW HD.
I'm happy with it.

Works Perfectly,
This review is from: Firewire 800 9-6 Adapter Rohs (Personal Computers)
I bought a new 24 inch iMac, and it inexplicably came without a Firewire 400 port. I have an external drive that I couldn't even connect, and I was afraid I was going to have to buy a new one until I found this product. I plugged it in, then plugged in my drive, and it worked perfectly. I can import my video from my camera with no problems. This is a great product...

I purchased the adapter to hook up my external iSight camera to my new MacBook pro. The new models only have Firewire 800 and one would assume you could use the adapter to use the camera with, but no luck. I contacted the company who makes it and asked if they are aware of any issues and got a response of "Its firwire and if it works it works." Thats a nice response to get from a company, huh. I don't recommend it!

Just a quick review. This piece of hardware allows you to use a standard Firewire400 cable and plug it into the newer Firewire800 port found on the recently introduced Macbooks. I do not have a Mac Desktop, but these may have the new interface as well. Anyway, the adapter works just as you would expect it to. If you do have one of the new macbook pros, you know that all of the hardware ports are along the left side of the laptop, which can feel a little crowded - I use all of the ports at the same time: monitor, FW800 Ethernet, Power Adapter, etc. The Firewire adapter does fit without any problems. Why 4 stars? It's not exactly up to swiss standards for craftsmanship... I think if you really man-handled it, it would probably break, but so-far-so-good for me, and the price was right!
