Fireworks, by Jill Wellington and Edna Mae Holm is a brilliantly written whodunnit, with an enlightened twist. I couldn't put it down! Not only did I enjoy a thrilling murder mystery, but a sense of wonderment has stayed with me long after the mystery was solved. This is a totally unique book! Fireworks Blew My Circuits!,
By luise volta (Stanwood, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fireworks (Hardcover)
Fireworks is a unique and wonderful adventure into the land of Murder Mystery. Webb Hannis is a crusty detective, given to experiencing more than a little impatience. At his side, at his elbow, at the edge of his peripheral vision is his nemisis and Spirit Guide, Sam. I liked Sam. You may like Sam but Webb does not want Sam in his life or his nose in his business. This first novel written by a remarkable mother/daughter team offers a "sit-on-the-edge-of-your-chair" plot that doesn't unravel until the last pages. Woven intricately through it, is another dimension; one I found worth taking a look at. We view a crumbling dynasty along with a very interesting look into the complexities of modern pyrotechnics. Fireworks is a read you won't want to put down, and it may blow your circuits, too!

This is a clever mystery! It has a great message that taps into everyones life. Everyone should read it because then you will know what all those things that happened to you that you couldnt explain. Like if you are trying to find someone. And like that he is right there. You will learn about this topic of synchronicity. Its a very fast paced book that has a Detriot cop named Webb Hannis. With a fun loving spirt guide named Samuel. Webb begins the book not knowing about Samuel. Then Webb, gets a head injury and he is able to see Samuel. Just like you, you probaly wont belive in Synchronicity at the start but by the end of this book you will be well aware of it and undersand those times that you couldnt explain what happened!! You should pick this NOW! Its a great book!

FIREWORKS - AN EXPLOSIVE READ!!!,
By Angel Barton (England, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fireworks (Hardcover)
I have been waiting for a book like FIREWORKS for a very long time. A gripping novel, a great mystery with a paranormal twist...I was gripped to the very end.If you've ever wondered where your best ideas and inspiration come from - you'll find your answer here! I thought those chance encounters were just `co-incidence' but Jill Wellington and Edna-Mae Holm call it synchronicity! These `accidental' and `chance' encounters are set up by our own protectors in spirit - a kind of guardian angel called a `spirit guide.' Since reading the book I have noticed a marked increase in this synchronicity - is this my own guardian? It's an exciting thought. The whole book is based around a murder mystery that had me gripped to the very end - who is the murderer? I bet you'll never guess! Jill and Edna-Mae ... I have just one question. When is the next book coming out because I want to order my copy now! I loved this book and I know you will too!

Well written, and the pacing is about right,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fireworks (Hardcover)
Edna Mae Holm is a former singer with a speech and drama degree. She ran a clothing business in Cincinnati for twenty years and also wrote a humorous column in three weekly papers. Her daughter, Jill Wellington, was a radio news reporter before joining WNEM TV-5 in Saginaw, Michigan. She inherited the humor gene from her mother and also wrote a humorous column for the Tri-County Citizen for six years. Both have made a study of the phenomenon of "synchronicity" for the past several years.Webb Hannis has also been an intuitive murder detective. Big and burly, her relied on his instincts until he was coshed over the head at a fireworks show in his new home of Detroit, Michigan. Coincidentally, there was an apparent murder of one of the owners of Lazare Fireworks. Webb wakes up with a new friend, Samuel, who is his spirit guide. Samuel is a clownish character who accompanies Webb everywhere he goes while he tries to unravel a murder in a dysfunctional family. Samuel tells Webb that he is always where he is supposed to be, if he would just let things develop in his life: "Webb thought about the big black book. 'That's too far out. A prewritten script for my life?' 'Not a perfect script,' Samuel said. 'More of a framework to help you stay on your chosen path.' Webb sighed heavily. 'A week ago I thought I was doing okay. Now I'm confused.'" Fireworks could be classified as a sort of New Age murder mystery. It's main theme is, of course, scattered throughout the book, replete with examples in Webb's journey to solve this bizarre case. Another great theme is men who marry the wrong women... which, if one talks to any sensible woman, is a familiar pattern. Jill and Edna Mae have great fun with out of control women with no compassion, ability to look outside themselves, or a work ethic. Likewise the men in the Lazare clan are just as blocked, and as Webb works through his own difficulties they make their own lives worse. Fireworks is a funny, tragic, and fully entertaining read. It is well written, and the pacing is about right. The color purple is another theme that is nicely developed, and the Wellington/Holm team use is to great advantage in their cover art. This review is from: Fireworks (Hardcover)
Mother/daughter authors Edna Mae Holm and Jill Wellington have crafted a thrilling mystery tale of murder that strikes at the heart of a fireworks dynasty.
