4.0 out of 5 stars M.O.P. - Firing Squad
First time I heard M.O.P. was on there second album "Firing Squad" (1996). The duo of Lil'Fame & Billy Danzenie delivered a solid album full of hardcore tracks. DJ Premier and Big Jaz's production contributions to this album are memorable. Backed by a sick piano beat, M.O.P. rip up the grimey title track "Firing Squad", followed up by the deadly "New Jack City". Next Rap...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not John Blaze!
Yo, this album has some tight production by DJ Premier! But, the lyrics and choppy flow provided by M.O.P. just don't cut it. At times throughtout the cd, it seems like they yell and mumble words together. And what's really annoying is how the group echoes every sentence after a member rocked verse on the mic. However, they do represent the hardcore thug image with...

4.0 out of 5 stars M.O.P. - Firing Squad, December 24, 2003
This review is from: Firing Squad (Audio CD)
First time I heard M.O.P. was on there second album "Firing Squad" (1996). The duo of Lil'Fame & Billy Danzenie delivered a solid album full of hardcore tracks. DJ Premier and Big Jaz's production contributions to this album are memorable. Backed by a sick piano beat, M.O.P. rip up the grimey title track "Firing Squad", followed up by the deadly "New Jack City". Next Rap legend Kool G Rap drops in for a rugged collabration on "Stick To Ya Gunz" another sick track. "Anticipation" embodies part of KRS-One's "MC's Act Like They Know" and is another blazing track. M.O.P. represent on "Born to Kill" love the keyboards to this one. Big Jaz's beat to "World Famous" was reused last year on Scarface's hit single "My Block", its a sick beat and I like the M.O.P. version. On "Lifestyles of a Ghetto Child" and "Illside of Town" M.O.P. deliver dark hardcore tracks of Murder, loyalty and survival. The next cut "Nothin 2 Lose" is outstanding, M.O.P. get more personal talking about themselves, fallen friends and family, jail and the streets. "Dead & Gone" is another standout, sampling portions of Curtis Mayfields "Let's Do It Again" and featuring background vocals from Battle, Tanya Ray and La Shonda Middleton, M.O.P. pay tribute to fallen friends while addressing death and the afterlife. Album closes off well with "Born 2 Kill" (Jazz Mix). M.O.P. deliver genuine grimey streetlife music with "Firing Squad" an album I would recommend to anyone who enjoy hardcore Hip Hop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smokin' Gunz..............Fiyah!, January 30, 2004

Honestly, the beats on "Firing Squad" were better than "Warriorz" because most of the tracks are dark and fiery. DJ Premier produced the hotest tracks:

"Firing Squad" jazzy but dark piano loop
"New Jack City" nice work with the xlyophone
"Stick to your gunz" need more Kool G Rap collabos
"Downtown Swinga ('96)" underground classic

The lyrics on this CD are hot. M.O.P. were definitely hungry when the tracks were created. This group has been slept on for years. Respect due.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another solid album for their 2nd --- 4.5 stars, April 9, 2005

Fizzy Womack & Billy Danze return after 2 years and deliver another solid album, my 2nd favorite of their 5 rap albums. Of the 14 songs on here, 2 are classics, 2 are ok and the other 10 are good or great songs. Once again, as with all their albums, you don't get no fake $hi+ just pure gangsta and hardcore. Production is good as with all their albums and done by most of the same people who do all their beats. DJ Premier did 6 songs, Laze-E-Laze did 4, Big Jaz did 3 and Ali Dee did 1. Guests are on the first 3 songs (and are hardcore themselves - Teflon & the great Kool G Rap) so you still get a lot of M.O.P. A must have for real hardcore rap fans not that radio and MTV crap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Send ya back to ToysR'Us 2 Get Your Cabbage Patched, Kid!, October 2, 2000

Stick to ya gunz, featuring a disgusting Kool GRap is the best song on the album, and the quality is consitent throughout. Brownsville, Downtown Swinga, Firing Squad, Salute are all great. Preemo put some of his best beats on here (about half the album was produed by him) and MOP kills them. Billy Danzs especially keeps improving and theyre both great, among the best screaming MC's out there. Lets see the MOP vs Onyx battle!! Hell yeah.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable hardcore rap album, March 2, 2000
This review is from: Firing Squad (Audio CD)
When it comes to high-energy hardcore rap, you just can't beat M.O.P. With a tag-team lyricical assault that is almost on par with groups like Heltah Skeltah or old-school EPMD, M.O.P. blows shotgun-sized holes in wack MC's. Their constant references to guns may turn some listeners off, but pound for pound, this was one of the strongest releases of 1996. Unfortunately, it was also one of the most slept-on. They employ DJ Premier for the majority of the beat-making, and as always, he comes through like a champ. The beats he supplies for M.O.P. to rip over are some of the grittiest Primo's ever done. The loop for "Stick to Ya Gunz" sounds straight outta "Scarface," the wicked piano loop that rides under "Firing Squad" will keep heads noddin' for years, and the bump-n-roll of "Downtown Swinga '96" will have you stompin' holes in the concrete. The album occasionally falters when the group tries to deliver a message (the overly preachy "Dead & Gone" and the lil'-ghetto-boy story "Lifestyles of a Ghetto Child"), but otherwise this is a solid album from front to back. If you're into hardcore gritty street raps and high-energy wild-style rhymes, this is the album for you.

M.O.P. delivers some of the hottest hardcore songs you'll ever hear, such as "ANTICIPATON", and "BORN 2 KILL". They don't talk about gettin' money and cars and all that crap. They're keepin' it real. Anybody that doesn't like this album has problems. M.O.P. forever.

Cop this dope album now... can't nobody touch the Mash Out Posse when it comes to hype lyrics and beats... "Stick To Ya Gunz" with a tight appearance from Kool G Rap, "Salute", "Nothin' To Lose" and "Downtown Swinga '96" are sick joints that get your mojo flowing... DJ Premier and Laze-E-Laze provide the music, and Billy Danze and Lil' Fame come through as always with the words... M.O.P.'s second best album in my opinion, right behind "First Family 4 Life"... East Bay Holla!

This group and CD is Hip-Hop's most slept on. I have been listing to M.O.P. on mix tapes for sometime now and was waiting for them to leave the underground scene and BLOW UP, but the commercial side of Hip-hop was not to fond of these true Hip-Hop Artist. Honestly it does not get any realer than these two, on every track they spit fire at you, line after line is fierce. Go get it and you'll feel what I feel on this one. Now we know who Mystical is trying to sound like.
