Firm Cardio: Cardio Burn delivers a workout that tones and conditions with a variety of intensities and activities. Students will not be bored by this 50-minute session, as an array of training equipment is utilized to sculpt the muscles and elevate the heart rate. Aerobic routines and strength-building moves are performed with steps, small balls, and hand weights (three- to eight-pound weights are suggested for women and five to 15 for men). Choreography is simple and approachable during the cardio segments; however, participants with compromised backs, necks, or joints may want to modify their impact in this portion. Power movements that include plyometrics, kicks, and jumping jacks will make you break a sweat, but this portion may be difficult for some students to execute safely. Weightlifting and isometric exercises are spliced between these "cardio bursts" and use a full range of motion. A variety of lower-body exercises (like lunges, squats, and pliés) are done with attention to body alignment and proper form. The upper body is trained with the small ball (for isometric exercises) and hand weights (for curls and lateral lifting). This program's challenging and unique format, with its diverse approach to familiar exercises, will hold the attention of many participants. Cardio Burn works on many levels to improve fitness in this fun, innovative, and informative video. --Olivia Voigts

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Cardio Workout, June 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Firm Cardio: Cardio Burn [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I just got into the Firm about a year ago and am very impressed with their workouts. They really make a difference if you use them consistently. They are mainly the only tapes I use. I wouldn't consider myself a "Firm Believer", but am more of a average consumer. I did not like this tape the first time I did it, as I didn't believe it had enough weight segments. After doing it another time though, it has become one of my favorites. The music is great and it really gets your heart rate up. The moves are fun and even though I am pretty uncoordinated with dance moves, I found myself picking up most of the steps by the third viewing. I agree with the viewer from Monterey--this is definitely a more modern workout. I have never been a big fan of those old classic Firm workouts, as some of the moves and pace of the weightlifting seem unsafe. Not to mention the BAD 80's music. I would alternate days on this tape with a video that contains more strength training such as Tough Tape 1 or 2. The instructor Tamela Hastie is a sweetie. She seems genuine and is one of the best to come along since Tracie Long. This is one of the best videos they have come out with since Firm Cardio and Firm Strength--my favorites. I am anxious to try the other new "Cardio" videos.

4.0 out of 5 stars Packs a punch, December 21, 1999
This review is from: Firm Cardio: Cardio Burn [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is similar to the other Firm videos; it combines aerobics with weight training for best results. The instructor, Tamela Hastie, can be sappy at times, saying, "This is fun" every few minutes. However, she is in great shape and will put you to the test. The workout includes mostly plyometric jumps, squats, lunges and dips to really work out your lower half. Tamela works with weights as well, focusing mainly on shoulders, back, biceps and triceps. The video finishes with crunches. What makes this tape different from others is that she repeats many of these exercises many times so you really feel the burn. One drawback, for now, is that I felt some of the choreography was confusing. It's not impossible, so I think it can be mastered after a few viewings.

Overall, I thought the video did a great job with working the entire body. You will need hand weights, a low step and a high step to perform the workout. The tape also suggests you use a 2 lb. exercise ball and a 10 lb. barbell, although alternatives are also suggested such as a canteloupe or hand weights.

I was glad I purchased the tape because I feel it will definitely provide a challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, March 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Firm Cardio: Cardio Burn [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been using Firm tapes for over 3 years and have found nothing else to be more effective and addicting. Cardio Burn is a fantastic workout! I absolutely love the music and the moves are fun to do. The choreography was a bit confusing the first time through but I found myself getting it after the 2nd or 3rd time. If you're looking for something to get your heart pumping and your muscles toned, buy this tape!
