5.0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price!
My wife and I knew we wanted to get a toy piano for our little girl, and struggled somewhat with what brand and price range to stick with. I'm glad to have come across this little jewel! Our girl, though only one year old now, plays with it frequently, and likes to hear other people play it. When she's hiding somewhere or getting into mischief, I'll just hit a few keys...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sound is not very good
My 2 year old son got this for Christmas last year and was initially very excited because he loves music. However the piano has a very tinny sound and doesn't even come close to a real piano sound. Also the stool and piano legs have to be tightened often and can come off quite easily.

My wife and I knew we wanted to get a toy piano for our little girl, and struggled somewhat with what brand and price range to stick with. I'm glad to have come across this little jewel! Our girl, though only one year old now, plays with it frequently, and likes to hear other people play it. When she's hiding somewhere or getting into mischief, I'll just hit a few keys and she'll come crawling out of wherever she was hiding to join me.

Keep in mind this is a *TOY* piano--don't expect a grand piano sound out of a toy. This utilizes small metal rods of varying lengths in the interior of the instrument to produce the sound, which is a clear, pleasant tinkling; much like a windchime. One note was a bit sour, but I solved this by removing the top cover (4 screws), and adjusting the appropriate metal rod. These slide back and forth with gentle pressure, so it is possible to tune the instrument perfectly. The legs of the piano and stool can loosen over time, but you can easily solve this with a couple drops of loc-tite solution.

There are more well-known name brands and better workmanship out there, but I'm glad not to have spent more than was necessary for a decent quality instrument.

I bought this last Christmas for my three year old and five year old. Thesound of the piano is a little off, but all in all the piano is nice for the price. The leg of the stool breaks very easily. Don't buy unless you can fix.

I bought this for my god-daughter for Christmas. I actually thought that I was ordering a Schoenhut baby grand, but for some reason I ended up with this.

Anyway, it is not a piano. It is a toy, it doesn't sound like a piano, it doesn't play like a piano. It just looks like one and that is about it.

Metal rods for the sound, doesn't sound good at all. You hit one key and get multiple notes with very little clarity. And I have to pound on some of the keys to get it to work well or have a clear sound.

All in all, I really wish I could return this item get my money back and spend the another 40-50 dollars on a Schoenhut or other good brand of childrens piano. But the day I received it and checked to see if I could return it I could not.

I got ripped off. By something else people, this technically isn't even a string instrument...and definatley won't really help in teaching a child music in my opinion.

1.0 out of 5 stars A $10 toy piano has better sound than this, January 22, 2006

For the price ($80) I expected much better sound. Should spend a little more and get a Shoenhut or for $10 you could get a toy piano that sounds better than this one. Very tinny sound, completely out of tune (why do they bother even assigning a note to the keys?), and lid is attached with screws AND glue so the only way to get to the metal rods to attempt to tune it, even after the screws are removed, will be to crack the wood casing getting past the glue.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Review, May 28, 2007
This review is from: First Act Discovery FP830 Junior Grand Piano (Electronics)
Our son received this as a gift from his Grandma for his first birthday. She knew he would love it because he enjoys "playing" the real piano, at her house.

Well, he does love it. He love, love, loves it. No other thing we have ever purchased for him has captured his attention for such a long period of time. We've only had it for a couple of weeks, so he might get tired of it at some point. We'll see. But for now, it's his favorite thing. He loves to stand and bang on the keys, then pauses to look around to make sure everyone is listening to his performance. He'll even stop and clap for himself. He also sits on the bench and plays. The dimensions are great for either standing or sitting.

The version we have has a slightly different stool, with the legs angle out a bit, which makes it very very sturdy.

The piano itself is less sturdy and we only let him play with it when we're in the room because he has tried to climb on it and tip it over.

So it's a wonderful toy and I can see that this could be a great way to introduce your child to playing an instrument.

However, the sound. It's pretty tinny and chimey. It isn't unpleasant, even with all the banging. It just isn't super piano like. I tried to pick out country gardens and the notes are quite off key. I read in another person's review that they were able to tune it a bit, so we'll have to try that.

So as an actual instrument? I'd give this one star. As an entertaining musical toy, five stars. I'd give it an extra half star just for the photo ops you'll have, but half stars aren't possible. Sooo: overall, three stars.

When we initially pulled this out the box, I was excited becaue it was crafted so well! Real wood and excellent craftsmanship - HOWEVER - the sound absolutely sucks! It sounds like Elmo's toy piano, or even worse. I thought it was just the fact that the piano was sitting flat on the floor (I hadn't installed the legs yet), and the sound was just off. By the time I got everything assembled, the disappointment settled in even deeper. This piano was not worth the price I paid for it - by any stretch of the imagination. I realize this is a TOY and not an instrument; but again, for the money, you'd expect a better sounding product. An added note: my daughter LOVES banging on it!

Bought a similar pink version of this grand piano for my daughter's 3rd birthday. The piano was defective right out of the box, 4 keys has no sound to it, some of the strikers are stuck in the "up" position.

The piano promptly went back to the store and we'll be shopping for another brand.

I recently bought one of these for our 18-month-old son. The piano arrived in fine shape. The piano and bench are sturdy and well made when you put them together properly. The sound is just like I remember a toy piano should sound. Notes are not perfectly in tune like a fine instrument, but tuned within reason to the notes of the scale, including sharps and flats. Most importantly, our little boy just loves playing this piano. Hopefully it will inspire him to continue and so it is as great an introdroduction to music as any other toy, including the electronic toys, we have purchased for him. I also liked that he wasn't able to pull off the keys try as he may. They just kind of become locked when he trys to do that and can be put back in place by minor adjstment.

I bought this piano for my 15 month old daughter for Christmas 2008. My sister first noticed that the keys were not lined up straight. It was very easy to put together, but the sound and quality were horrible. We could hardly press the keys down to hear anything. I boxed it back up and returned it asap! Don't waste your time or money on getting this product. I just bought a new schoenhut piano and hopefully this will be of better quality and sound.
