I first used this mic when it came with my small, 7-watt store-bought karaoke machine from years ago, and didn't think too much of it because I had nothing to compare it against figuring you get what you pay for. Now, years later, and after having moved way up in equipment to even to what the DJ's are using in nite clubs -- and many different microphones later -- I can tell you that this mic sounds better than those costing hundreds, yes hundreds of dollars more. This mic has, and in spades, what I call "presence." It will make you sound better, and do it without electronic gimmickry. When using this mic I'm able to back off it, way off, in fact, and still punch through the loudest parts of a song which, and with the other mics, doesn't happen unless I practically swallow them. And when a song type does require you to step it up, you can do it with ease and all without straining yourself: which is something that can throw a lot of singers off-key. It picks up every vocal nuance you make beautifully. Another thing it has going for it is its minimal handling noise, or cord noise when you're getting "into" the music, even when manipulating the on/off switch. And it has just as much heft and metal as a Shure 58. I can't tell you how many times this thing has been dropped, yet refuses to give up the ghost.

Another thing the First Act MVM-88 unidirectional has going for it, is that it doesn't cause the same frustrating feedback that all my other mics do -- not even when I'm cranking my 1600 watt system to its fullest. And if you caught the fact that this unidirectional mic produces less feedback that my other carotid types do, I can't explain that, other than to suggest it has something to do with internal shielding so good on these guys for that.

Plugged this into my computer and experienced a significant amount of background noise. I gave it away to a friend and he's been using it no problem.
