Definately buy for Step 1!!! Without it, FA for Step 1 is incomplete!,

This review is from: First Aid™ Cases for the USMLE Step 1: Second Edition (First Aid USMLE) (Paperback)
I bought this for my Step 1 review and love it. The book is broken up into sections, with several cases for each organ system. The case gives a basic vignette of the presentation of a patient, and then below it is information on what the disease is, what signs and symptoms you would see, how you would treat it, etc. It is a great way to tie in lots of information.
It definately is what you need in addition to the usual First Aid for Step 1 book, because that book is sadly lacking in detail on many diseases and drugs. This book fills in what they miss, and presents it in a way that mirrors what you will see in questions and on the real exam. I find it a great way to review what I've read in FA, learn how it would present in a patient, and make my knowledge more solid.

Really good practice case that are high yield. It's a good review for me, everything I need to know is in the book. Great for review, but not to be used alone as the only study source. Is a good supplement.

Step 1 studying is a pain and has the potential to be all over the place when you're going through your question bank. This book is good for formation of cohesive understanding of a particular disease, and the 2nd edition is a massive improvement over the first one. It explains a lot of difficult concepts and it breaks the monotony of studying bullet points and buzz words and key phrases. I fully recommend this if you have the capability of reading a lot of cases very quickly- it follows First Aid for the most part, just places things in a better context.

Cases pair up nicely with regular First Aid review. As said before, there are a few errors and outdated treatments, but what can you expect for a book that is not updated every year.
The largest value of this book comes from seeing clinical vignettes of diseases that you know a few facts about yet wouldn't be able to diagnose from a clinical question. The presentations of diseases are all correct and helps you in underlining/annotating your regular First Aid.

Too many mistakes,
By Ken R. (MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: First Aid™ Cases for the USMLE Step 1: Second Edition (First Aid USMLE) (Paperback)
This book has the potential to be good, but there are just too many errors. The format is nice, with a short USMLE-type case presentation and then questions about the case with explanations. The problem is that every section has multiple errors, some of which are errors in important concepts. My advice is to stay away from this book unless you have a good handle on the material and can catch all of the mistakes.

The Good Book of Step 1,

Buy this at the beginning of sophomore year in medical school. Refer to the relevant topics as you learn them throughout the academic year. Supplement the information as needed. When it's Step 1 prep time, this becomes the only text you'll need. Thank me later. Also, this is helpful to predict what specifics the profs may test.

Since questions are not just straight recall but in the form of vignettes, it's useful to look at cases and know the key buzz words. Nice compliment to my other materials.
