This review is from: First Aid for Dogs (Pet Care) (Paperback)
First Aid for Dogs: What to do before you take your dog to the Vet by Dr. Justin Wimpole provides a very rudimentary level of aid for dogs. I found that it failed to provide enough information or detail to provide much care for your pet. The book has some useful drawing but no photographs. The chapter on "First Aid Kit for your Dog" was very lean and I was hoping to obtain a more complete list of items to have in case of an emergency. The chapter on "Trauma" would benefit from more in-depth information. I originally purchased this book to obtain information on building an emergency first aid kit for my dog. I do not feel this book was very useful in accomplishing this goal. I actually found more comprehensive information online for free by conducting Google searches. This book is really suited for someone who knows very little to nothing about canine care and wants to learn some basic information for recognizing when your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian due to illness or trauma.

Things I did not find useful include:

-Weights are given in kilograms and not pounds.
-Normal temperature ranges are given in Celsius and not Fahrenheit.
-The listed emergency contacts are for Australia, United Kingdom and New Zealand.
-The book is written in Australia so there is terminology used that is not common in the States.

Overall, I do not recommend First Aid for Dogs by Dr. Justin Wimpole as much of the information was too basic and location specific to Australia in regards to medications, snake bites, spider bits, emergency contacts, etc.
