This review is from: First Aid for the® Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship: Second Edition (First Aid Series) (Paperback)
to be honest, i bought the book during my obgyn rotation and never touched it. i was told by classmates that i could pass the test by just doing casefiles, so i did... and i passed. but i didnt do as well as i could have, and later as i studied for the USMLE step 2, i realized how much of the material i really had not learned. i went back to quickly read this book then, and it had all the info i was missing.

Solid Resource for Rotation,

Overall, this book was really helpful not just for the shelf, but also for the rotation. I felt that most of the information covered on the shelf exam was represented in some form in this book - very high yield. It was also a great outline to take notes in from practice questions and other resources you might use. My biggest complaint is that breast disease was not covered at all in this book, and there were definitely questions on the shelf exam regarding the topic. Also some of the information was outdated (screening recommendations for pap smears, availability of the new implant for contraception), but a newer edition of this book just came out last month, so maybe these things have been fixed. Regardless of the changes, it's still a book I'd recommend.

This book is good to read through while on the rotation and covers a lot of the important topics i think. It is pretty basic and you will definitely need to be reading other sources while on the rotation, but this is a good base.

This is not worth the money if you're studying for the shelf. Maybe if reviewing for a rotation, but since you have to take the exam anyway better to get something more complete for both.

Fills in holes Blueprints leaves after reading.,
This review is from: First Aid for the® Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship: Second Edition (First Aid Series) (Paperback)
I realized that this book really explains things that blueprints only touches on. Blueprints is great probably for passing a shelf exam and its very easy to read but its not as practical as the First Aid. After reading the delivery chapter I realized that everything I had done in deliveries is presented in there and things I had wondered about (such as FHR tracings) are explained in this book in a way that is more memorable than in Blueprints. Not that I haven't read them both. I have read Blueprints cover to cover and it is a good book. But this one supplements it so well.
