First Aid not just at Sea,

This review is from: First Aid At Sea (Spiral-bound)
This is an excellent First Aid spiral-bound large-format leaflet for serious injuries. For one thing, it helps distinguish what are really serious injuries. Being written for "At Sea", it assumes the caregiver doesn't have immediate access to medical support personnel - and says when you absolutely must get help as soon as possible. Most First Aid manuals are too long, and the type is too small, to be used in a real emergency. This is a good attempt at creating something that can be used as a medical emergency guide when a medical emergency occurs.

Too basic.,

I found this 'pamphlet' too basic to be useful for someone without any training. Anyone with even minimal training should go for one of the advanced books, especially if your sailing included any offshore.

truly excellent,
This review is from: First Aid at Sea (Paperback)
I agree with all that ibuyer has said in his review. This is a truly excellent basic first aid manual. It tells you what you need to know in the hectic first moments of a medical emergency at sea. Then it suggests further courses of action to be pursued. It makes the point that some of the first aid techniques that are appropriate on land are just not tenable on a bouncing boat.
I also particularly like the the waterproof construction of the book. I would add (as with all first aid texts) that if possible buy the latest edition...in this case the fifth edition from 2008. |
