Does what it needs to do,

I bought this to store some keys and various condo files. It's nice and compact and seems well-made. I only wish this were a combination lock instead of one with a key. I'm afraid of losing the key and not being able to unlock it.

Am very pleased to finally have a file system to keep all my important papers in at home & not have to rent a security box at the bank. It locks nice & secure & am comforted to know my documents are safely under lock & key. Be prepared for how heavy it is but other than that I love it.

Exactly what I was looking for! A safe place to store important papers. Not fancy, not expensive, Just functional. As listed! I would give this product a 4 and 1/2 star rating!

We have had the chest for about 6 months now. All of a sudden, it will not unlock, regardless of which key I use. It's nice that the chest keeps things secure, but I would prefer that they not be kept secure from me.

Third time using key in lock, lock just fell out. Honeywell is sending new lock assembly but I suggest getting a box with a combination. Then you do not have this issue or have to keep keys. I wish I had thought about this first. Is very heavy and would probably keep things safe...but lock assembly is cheaply made...disappointed in comparison to rest of Honeywell products.

Great product, but Amazon shipping process needs improvement,

Ordered this on the strength of the reviews here, and it meets all expectations (appears to be sturdy enough to be fire/waterproof, but as reviewers have said, kind of hard to test that). But though perfectly happy with the actual product, Amazon's packaging leaves something to be desired (it arrived with top corner completely crushed in, when it was dropped even the plastic casing was fractured). Re-reading many of the Honeywell and SentrySafe reviews, I've just noticed that many customers have also received damaged safes. I'm sending this back to Amazon and will instead buy one from the local Lowe's. Amazon has to pack heavy items more securely.

This safe is a good size, and seems quite sturdy. I have had this safe for about 3 years. Unfortunately, all of the paper items that I placed in the safe grew mildew on them immediately. Since these are items that I wanted to PROTECT from damage, this has turned into an inconvenience. I placed a block of cedar in it some time ago, however the damage has already been done. None of my items were wet or remotely moist when I placed them inside, it seems as thought there was some residual moisture inside the safe when I received it.

I bought 2 of these, one for me and one as a christmas gift for my father. When I took it out of the box, the entire locking mechanism fell off the case and a bunch of foamy/cardboardy stuff began to crumble on the floor. I panicked thinking, how am I going to send this heavy thing back.. but I just pushed it back on and it stuck in place. The stuff that fell out must've been the fire proof material obviously, but I never expected it to just fall off like that. Well, it's no so much for locking out others, but at least it should keep things from burning in a fire. fingers and toes crossed. Also, just enough space for some important documents, but not much. I didn't expect too much since it really wasn't all that expensive. I guess it's ok for the overall cost.

I bought this fire and water proof file chest in late Nov 2009. We have birth, death and marriage certificates as well as wills, SS cards and other valuable papers that we intended to put in the chest once we had them organized. In the interim we only kept the purchase info, brochures and some Christmas cards in the chest. Well we are finally organized. I pulled the box from an above grade location in our dry furnace room, opened it up and found the contents saturated with water and smelling of mold. I have no idea where the water came from but I shudder at the thought of what would have happened to all those important documents had they been in the chest. Now I'll have to see if I can find a chest that REALLY offers protection.

Jammed after a few uses -- Dumped in Trash,

I bought this safe to protect my important papers. The locking mechanism jammed after a few uses. I tried both keys in the keyhole, but the mechanism refused to budge. I was in a panic because I needed my passport, which I had locked in the safe. My husband took a cheap hammer, banged on the lock, and the whole locking mechanism came off in his hands. I did get my passport out in time, but that's not the point. This product fails on all counts. It is easy to break in to, it jams so you can't get your items out of it, and the "troubleshooting" information on the First Alert website did not fix the problem. I recommend a "no buy" on this one. Look elsewhere. The safe is now junk in my trash bin. |
