4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
It's not like, the ultimate in safe-cash keeping. But it's pretty darn good. Previous reviewers seemed to have issues with the lock, however I've had no trouble at all. The worst thing I can say about the item I recived was the top half of the box was slightly misaligned with the bottom half.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality.
This is the first item I ever returned to Amazon. The box isn't very sturdy, the locking mechanism is poor quality (there's a little metal clasp that rotates upward to keep your box "secure"). The key we had kept jamming, and it was hard to keep the lid shut. If you need a box just to keep your cash in, but you don't need it to be secure, this box is right for...

If you're looking for something sturdy to take to conventions or some other public sales event, look elsewhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so, misalignment and iffy lock., April 7, 2009
This review is from: First Alert 3026F Cash Box with Money Tray, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
Other users have already said this, but I'll reiterate that my box has an alignment problem between the upper and lower half. That's not really a problem in itself, but it seems to worsen the problems with the lock. The lock is poorly constructed and takes several tries to really "hook" into place properly. It often gets stuck and won't lock. I've had the box fall open while I was carrying it by the handle. This is NOT a box you really want to carry around with one hand.

Besides the lock and alignment problem, the box is pretty sturdy and well-constructed, the money-clips hold the money quite securely.

I bought this cash box at a local store, in a pinch-- my next box I invest in will have to have a better, more reliable lock.

The metal of the box is heavy, and seems like it could take a half-beating fairly well. The lock is somewhat cheap, but it does the job if you're just looking for a way to keep your roomies from jacking your bank. I suggest this for any collector of spare change or saving for that new video game. :P I would suggest something else if you prefer a more professional feel and safety of a cash box.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better made..., July 14, 2010

Well...the good thing is that the springs hold money well. My family does a Farmer's Market deal and it works fine for holding money. BUT, if you want to keep people from taking your money, you'll want to keep this out of site and far away from people. The Locking system is a -5 out of +5 because someone could easily open it when locked. Apply the right pressure at the right spot and open-says-me...

Does half of its job.

The box is a really great design other then the lock...I can actually pull the lid open with a little force. The lock is only a very thin piece of metal I don't know why they didn't add a little more support to that piece.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Springs are weak!, July 8, 2011

The design and functionality of this cash box is simply awesome. However, the springs that hold plastic handles that press on paper currency are extremely weak! The spring deformed, fell off and could not hold 50 one dollar bills. What an oversight for such a well-designed and thought-out product!

I had two of these sold under a different brand name. They worked very well until the almost impossible to replace springs started to break. I found these with a statement they were from that other manufacturer with a new name. Since they were OK in the past, I purchased two. They are doing the job as expected. The only area I have some question with is the old ones had steel bails where the new ones from First Alert have plastic bails. My thought is to be very careful with the plastic one and they may last a reasonable amount of time. They look to me like they may/will break with constant "snap" closing by the spring.

I was a little disappointed with the construction of this cash box as it is somewhat light duty, but yet has functioned fine keeping our money organized.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lock box for storage more then for safe keeping., May 10, 2012

This lock box works perfectly for my small business during the summer but I wouldn't trust it as a safe or anything. It's main purpose is to make it impossible for a thief to just quickly snag your cash or valuables, it would NOT work as a safe seeing that someone could just walk away with it. Also, I was able to pick the lock with the simplest of lock picks and very little lock picking experience so, again, its not a safe.

One of the dividers were broken when received & does not close without using the key,so if you close lid and lift handle it will spill all over unless its locked
