4.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done
I needed a file box with a lock to hold my personal documents and this does just that. I've looked online for security file boxes and they're more than $100. The keys are a little flimsy, but it's good for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely UNSECURE and flimsy
This metal box is so flimsy that you can lock it then just press on the side of the box, popping it open. It's completely UNSECURE and useless for locking anything up. I now use it as just a plain metal box. Check out the Sentry fire safes -- much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, October 6, 2008

The item is titled a "LOCKING" steel file box from Honewell (one of the supposed leading companies in security). The lock on the file box didn't work. While in the locked position, you could easily pull open the top of the file box.

SO MUCH FOR SECURITY!

2.0 out of 5 stars Lock Box Review, September 29, 2008

The box is sturdy, but the same cannot be said about the lock. Sometimes it is hard to open, using the slide release, even when unlocked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Flimsy, December 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: First Alert 3050F Steel File Box, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
This box is cheaply made, has a lock that you can unlock with a paper clip and the metal is thinner than a baking pan. It does hold hanging files, somewhat. If all you want is a box to put papers in so that you can run out of the house with them during an emergency, get a cheaper plastic one. This one will not keep anyone out of the papers you keep inside, it is not even remotely fire or water resistant(the plastic ones are more water resistant), and dents if it gets knocked over. If I could ever get Amazon to acknowledge I sent an item back, I would return this (I only order from Amazon if I can afford to lose the money-I like the merchandise, but the return portion stinks.)

Good product, good service. If I would have waited 2 weeks, I could have paid about half as much!!

Well, it was either this or a much more expensive box, and since my husband and I don't have many files we went with this. I just use it for things like old taxes, etc. In the future I'll probably consider buying one that is water and fire safe, with a better lock. The other reviews are right in that this one isn't very secure. The lock is extremely cheap, reminds me of one of those that are on the diaries for little girls, if you know what I mean. Extremely easy to break or jimmy the lock, and it can't hold a 'ton' of files. But over all, I'm fairly happy with it, it meets my limited needs.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dented in shipping, September 15, 2008
This review is from: First Alert 3050F Steel File Box, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
Very thin/lightweight steel. Was a great price - but as w/everything, you get what you pay for. This product ended up dented in shipping, and has to be muscled closed. Since I won't be accessing it often, I will put up w/that, but I not too impressed. I'm also still working on getting the locking mechanism to work properly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for, August 28, 2011

This is a very inexpensive product. And as one would expect it is not the most rugged or durable. But for my purposes, which was simply to keep prying eyes out of personal papers it will suffice. It is a good size, and the lock, while not designed to stop anyone with serious intentions will stop the casual child or your teenagers daughters disfunctional stoner boyfriend.

So I think its worth the price but remember, "You get what you pay for."

The steel box was a gift to my wife and she is very happy with it.
The lock is usually a problem with a lot of files, but she is very happy with the lock on this box. It is ideal for limited files and well-made
