I have no idea how well this works, and hope I never have to find out.

It is a one-time use extinguisher but well worth the money as it probably saved me thousands of dollars worth of damage to my home.

So if you're looking for something to push into the corner under the sink, this is great.

Holy Geez this thing is great! My wife and I moved in to our house 5 years ago and this thing looked old then. Has just been sitting on the wall doing nothing. Moved it once when we painted the kitchen. Last weekend my father in law and I are working on a truck in the driveway. It's leaking a lot of gas on the engine...a lot... About 4 seconds after someone says, "that's probably dangerous," all hell breaks loose.

After the first few seconds - when I realized no one was dead (yet) - I came to my senses and started to try to put it out. Nothing cool like what you see on TV where your training kicks in and you remember how to handle it. Nope. I tried slapping it with a towel which made it waaaay bigger.
Just as I'm about to start unrolling the garden hose to make it even worse I remembered this little guy. Ran in and grabbed it off the wall, pulled the pin and ran back out.

By this point (about a minute in) the fire was getting serious. This little guy handled it in about 10 seconds. AWESOME!

Now...to tell my neighbor about his truck...

I have owned this little fire extinguisher for several years and it sat in a corner on a kitchen counter. Yesterday, the toaster oven in my kitchen caught fire. I grabbed this extinguisher, pulled the pin and aimed and in seconds the fire was out. I hate to think what could have happened if I hadn't had it handy. It is a one-time use extinguisher but well worth the money as it probably saved me thousands of dollars worth of damage to my home. The extinguishing agent is a powder and though I had somewhat of a mess to clean up, it was accomplished by wiping everything down with soap and water. I am so thankful I had this extinguisher and plan to immediately buy a replacement.

We moved into our home 11years ago and I purchased this little gem...First off let me say...shame on me for never testing the charge. The box was completely sealed, thank God we never had to use it. Until 12/25/11, while making popovers in a muffin tin (not advisable, by the way) the dripping/fat spilled over the pans, into the botton pan of my oven, going under the floor of the oven an going up in flames. I reached for the fire extinguiser and DONE...fire was out in a few seconds...Ordered my replacement extinguisher and one for my daghter in her new apartment. so greatful for such an amazing product.

My wife and I got this as a wedding present six years ago and it has been on the wall of the kitchen since then. I checked once a year by pressing the button on the top. Today I set fire to a grill pan of sausages in the oven. I grabbed the extinguisher, the pull ring snapped out easily, and it put out the fire instantly. Have placed my order for a replacement tonight.

I was heating a little pan of grease in order to clean the pan. I went out on the deck for a moment with my puppy - and naturally something that needed to be done caught my attention. Soon I began to hear a noise and thought it was my pup's invisible fence collar - turned out to be the smoke alarm. I bounded into the kitchen to find smoke, blazing flames on the over the range microwave and flames leaping up the cabinets. I grabbed the First Alert extinguisher(which had been sitting in the corner for 11 years), pulled the pin and extinguished the fire. The fire extinguisher saved my house which is built completely of heart pine.

These arrived quickly from a 3rd party seller, and they seem to be the perfect size for the kitchen. Thankfully I cannot attest to the effectiveness of the product, but there is no issue with them being NOT charged and ready to go. The product has a green button on top for you to test the extinguisher on a regular basis to make sure it is still charged and will be effective in case you need to use it. Easily mounts on the wall, and will come off quickly in an emergency. I like that it is white, it matches the kitchen more than a blaring red canister. It is also a good size to teach your kids to use, which I did show my 10 year old what to do if needed. Pull the trigger, point and shoot. Seems pretty straightforward! Hopefully you will never need to use this, but it gives a great peace of mind just in case.

Yes, my First Alert kitchen extinguisher was 22 years old. The date on it said 1991. I'm ashamed we hadn't gotten a replacement but time flies.

I was cooking on the grill on my deck and a burger fell through the grates. I turned off the gas and put down the lid but the other burgers caught fire. Next thing you know, flames are shooting 2 feet out the back of the grill towards the railing of my deck.

I tried salt and then asked my son to call 911. Daughter pipes up "Mom, we have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen!" Duh! Son grabs First Alert Fire Extinguisher and yells "MOM, IT'S DATED 1991. IT'S OLDER THAN ME!!!" Oh, geeze!

Son - who was younger than the extinguisher - deployed the extinguisher easily and it immediately put out the grill fire. YES, we just purchased a replacement First Alert Extinguisher today. I hope we don't ever have a reason to use it but will try to replace it before it hits the quarter century mark!

You want a non-toxic Sodium Bicarconate, low pressure extinguisher for the kitchen grease fires. The big red ones will put out grease fires but they are also toxic (you dont want those chemicals around food) and they will splash the burning grease around. This is what you want. Keep it handy when cooking!
