I love this unit.
I have one in each room in my house. Mounting this unit to the bracket is a bit of a pain; but even so it takes only 30 seconds to align it properly.

Difficult to install
Have had 4 units for a year. With the time change weekend here, I started to change the battery in the utility room detector. Got the unit down OK. Changed the battery with a new alkaline one, observed the proper polarity. Any time I got close to twisting it onto it's mounting bracket, the alarm would go off until I took the battery out again. Ended up hauling out a...

Difficult to install,

Have had 4 units for a year. With the time change weekend here, I started to change the battery in the utility room detector. Got the unit down OK. Changed the battery with a new alkaline one, observed the proper polarity. Any time I got close to twisting it onto it's mounting bracket, the alarm would go off until I took the battery out again. Ended up hauling out a stepladder so I could get close enough to the unit to see what I was doing. Even with the unit properly attached to the bracket, the unit was still falsely triggering. Did not even attempt to replace the batteries in the other 3 units before checking with the manufacturer. Compared with the Black & Decker and GE units that are hinged for battery replacement, I find these First Alert units very difficult to use.
