Book Description

September 7, 2004
The deadlocked Papal conclave turns to a compromise candidate, Anthony Cardinal Pavelli. Ordained at fifty years of age, and in declining health, the seventy-two year old American, is an unlikely choice. Reluctantly accepting the scepter as God’s will, the Pontiff is eager to reinvigorate the Church by initiating sweeping reforms. A group of ruthless cardinals, each with his own agenda, band together to stop the reforms by discrediting the Pope. Shadowy Vatican forces spread rumors and half-truths about the Pope’s former secular life. His Papacy is teetering, on the verge of implosion. The Pope takes his fight to the media and leads a peace mission to Ireland in an effort to bolster his image as a world leader. When the Pope can’t be derailed by twisted Machiavellian tactics his enemies resort to extreme measures.

A DIFFERENT SUSPENSE NOVEL
This tells the story of a fifty year-old man's life altering decision to leave his family and become a priest. That decision ultimately leads to his election as Pope and what he believes is his God given mission to change the Catholic Church before it dwindles in significance. He struggles against shadowy Vatican enemies as well as his past secular history. The suspenseful story pits good against evil and the Pope's triumph over his human weaknesses.

GREAT READING
First American Pope is a great story that gives readers an inside look at the making of a Pope, and an emotional look back at a man's life before receiving his higher calling. Filled with fact and fiction, this story takes the reader to the heart of Rome to reveal the politics and personalities surrounding the Vatican and Papacy.

COULDN'T STOP READING!
The intrigue between the Pope, other personalities and the rest of the Vatican was enough to keep me reading. Not being Catholic, I was really engrossed in finding out about the inner workings and the politics of the Papacy. The American Pope was a thriller to the end. The human interest was such that we can all indentify with this great man.
