This book destroys the pre-tribulation rapture theory,
By jbw@zebra.net (Mobile, Alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
This book answers all the worn out theories that are put forth by the hyper dispensationalists to get the church off the earth before the tribulation begins. Gundry's book lines up with what Christ and all the Apostles wrote and preached concerning the Second Coming of Christ and the rapture of the church. It is a book that is a "must read" for all Christians as we approach the last days. Gundry does not give you what he thinks, but what saith the scriptures. There is no book on the market today that comes as close to the truth about the second coming of Christ and the rapture of the church then Gundrys'. Don't waste your money buying the TV preachers books or tapes, get Gundry's book and then you will be prepared for the last days. Arthur L. Watkins Gulf Coast Bible Society

I challenge pre-tribbers to read this one,
This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
This is not necessarily a step by step study of the post-trib position, but rather a comparison of the pre-trib theory to the post-trib. Out of the 7 or 8 books I've read that are opposed to the pre-trib "doctrine", this one shows more holes in the great escape mentality than all of them. A must read for anyone anti-pre-trib. A must must read for anyone holding the pre-trib theory. There won't be much you will be able to argue with if you are a pre-tribber, though history tells us you will. Forgive my bluntness and please give this book a try to make sure you know why you believe as you do. The majority isn't always right. As in some of my other reviews, let me also suggest anything by Robert Van Kampen, H.L. Niger and Marvin Rosenthal.

Read the book and let iron sharpen iron,
This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
An excellent treatment of the post-trib position. Robert Gundry showcases his considerable eschatological expertise in point by point refutations of common pre-trib arguments that are often taken for granted as being true. But no matter what your stance on the rapture is, this book should be on your bookshelf. Compare your own positions with those taken in this book - examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith - and let iron sharpen iron. This book is a wealth of much needed scholarship in this area written in a language that everyone can understand.

Logic, History, Greek, and Scripture Defeat the Pre-Trib. View,

This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
Gundry's 2nd book on Eschatology (1st- "The Church and the Tribulation") is truly amazing. I have personally talked to him via email and his very goal for this book was to reveal the Historic Premillennial i.e. Post-Tribulationalism to an average layman. The book is filled with arguements from his more definitive and superior book, "The Church...". This book lays out simple arguements usually primarily logic along with Greek, History, and Scripture. Unlike his other book written in the 70's, this book presents more recent arguements from the Pre-Trib. concept. If an individual reads this and slowly understands the historic Biblical means of prophecy by interpretation and a basic understanding of Greek, then his other book is highly recommended. In Summary: Gundry presents great arguements that are hard if not impossible to debate whether it be the Greek understanding of "keep thee from" from Revelation 3:10 or the simplicity of the 1 phase, 1 complex event, the 2nd Advent, Gundry is a great representative of the Post-Trib. view and without doubt a great scholar.

Completely annihilates the "pre-Trib" position.,
By Robert J. Reese (California Cruzin') - See all my reviews
This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
If you're a Pre-Tribulation "Secret Rapture" fanatic, lookout...this book will send you away screaming and "writhing" in pain. Gundry delivers the "hydrogen bomb" that totally vaporizes the "Pre-Trib" position. If you think that Jesus is going to miraculously translate the saints before the Great Tribulation so as to avoid persecution, I'd suggest you read this book. I also liked Gundry's earlier book "The Church And The Tribulation." Get them both, read them and then go help stamp out "Commercial Christianity"- that is the kind that delivers all the sizzle without the steak. Jesus never promised a crown without a cross.

Completely Blows Pre-Trib Out of the Water !!!,

This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
Bob Gundry, the leading name in Post-Trib Eschatology gives us a book that describes the message that the scriptures teach as a whole, not bits and pieces of scripture that pre-tribber's use in defense. This book also gives us examples found in the Early Church Fathers, written as early as the 1st Century that teach a post-trib rapture, none of the Church Fathers believed they would be saved in a secret, pre-trib rapture - they knew they would need to face the persecution fo the Antichrist and the trials of the Great Tribulation and that's what they wrote to their churches. Some of the Church Fathers were taught by some of the Apostles themselves. If you have been taught the pre-trib rapture all your life you should definitely read this book!!!

Very Good Book!,

I'm a "post-triber" myself and I think that Bob Gundry has made the very best case that can be made about the, so called, rapture of the Church.Bob Gundry lays it all out so that even a child can understand. If you read this book and you're still a "pre-triber" after you've read it...then I guess I could'nt make you believe that 2+2=4.

Right position, poor defense,

This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
This book defends, in my opinion, an essentially correct understanding of the Second Coming of Christ/Rapture. Unlike "The Church and the Tribulation", which is excellent, this book is confusing to the common reader. Mr. Gundry uses run-on sentences that leave the reader breathless. He jumps from topic to topic, leaving the reader wondering what he is trying to say.The information in this book is important and true, and it needs to be communicated to the Christian community. It just needs to be communicated more clearly than this book is able to do.

Are You Willing To Be Challenged?,
By
This review is from: First the Antichrist: Why Christ Won't Come Before the Antichrist Does (Paperback)
Having been raised much like Robert Gundry, in a church and family that strongly believed in the pre-tribulation rapture view, I was not highly interested in reading a book that I knew would challenge my view. However, I am glad I did.
Bob Gundry takes a hard look at the rapture of the Church of Jesus Christ and he comes to the conclusion that the Bible does not teach the popular pre-tribulation rapture view expoused by popular teachers such as Tim LaHaye (LEFT BEHIND), Dr. John MacArthur (THE SECOND COMING), and many other evangelicals. Gundry looks at nearly every major second coming passage from Matthew 24-25 to 2 Thessalonians 2 to the book of Revelation to put together a view that was largly held by the Church until the late 1800's. I would encourage you to read this book. While you might not agree with Gundry, he will rattle your theological cage. He did that to me. A friend of mine once said that he held to the pan-tribulation view. It will all pan out in the end. Who really knows when Jesus will come? I for one will keep my eyes on Him until He comes (1 Cor. 9:24-27; Hebrews 12:1-3). For more on the post-tribulation view see George Ladd's THE BLESSED HOPE and his commentary on the book of Revelation. |
