Book Description

June 5, 2006
It’s been two years since the Centauri Princess was plagued by a series of attacks from mysterious, winged wolf-like creatures arriving from the interstellar night. Having eliminated the threat, the lonely ark is again cruising on her silent voyage towards a near-infinitely far destination. In the midst of this sereneness, what could possibly go wrong? In the immense ocean of darkness beyond our solar system, a mining expedition is dispatched to an ice world found drifting in the Oort cloud to replenish the ark ship’s uranium reserves. There, the expedition encounters mysterious revelations inside a “city of lights.” They discover something seductively beautiful yet viciously deadly. At the same time, the secret offers a solution that proves priceless to the multi-generational colony crew, eager to reach their unreachable destination in a single generation. In the end, a deadly struggle ensues amongst the ark’s own crew in their quest for immortality

About the Author

Abdul Ahad is a UK-based science fiction author with a background in Astronomy and the Space Sciences. In July 2004, he became the first person in scientific history to define a mean radius around the Sun, where its light dominion comes to an end (the 'Ahad radius'). In August 2004, he proposed a human interstellar spaceflight blueprint for reaching Alpha Centauri by relying on the safety of Oort cloud objects for possible mining/refuelling. 4.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling summer read, August 18, 2006
This review is from: First Ark to Alpha Centauri 2: The True Price of Immortality (Paperback)
First Ark to Alpha Centauri 2: The True Price of Immortality by A. Ahad is a great summer read for sci-fi enthusiasts. Mr. Ahad has a true, thorough understanding of astronomy and the vision and imagination to create new worlds. He truly brings his characters to life as they struggle with saving their world while reaching out to another world. The reader is apt to go outside to gaze at the night sky and ponder what is the true price of immortality and what lies in the future for the characters that Mr. Ahad has created?

5.0 out of 5 stars An imaginative sci-fi thriller!, July 27, 2006
This review is from: First Ark to Alpha Centauri 2: The True Price of Immortality (Paperback)
A. Ahad takes his readers on a voyage through time and space that is as informative as it is entertaining. The opening chapter, set on the planet Pritibee, introduces two young sisters with different destinies; one has the life sucked out of her and the other escapes -- to be found later on the far-flung planet of Chad. A parallel is drawn immediately between the two girls and the two planets. Pritibee is sucked out of existence by a black hole while Chad escapes -- torn out of orbit around Pritibee and flung into a cold world of darkness in deep space.
The frozen world of Chad holds uranium reserves that are vital to the continued existence of the starship Centauri Princess. When a mining expedition is sent out from the starship to plunder the reserves, the mineral scientists discover more than just uranium. In their curiosity, they re-awaken the living dead and change the course of their destinies in ways they had never thought possible.
First Ark to Alpha Centauri 2:The True Price of Immortality is an imaginative thriller that will enthral readers and leave them wanting more. I look forward to reading the next in the Centauri series by this accomplished author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, May 13, 2008
This review is from: First Ark to Alpha Centauri 2: The True Price of Immortality (Paperback)
Two millennia ago, the Centauri Princess, a twelve-mile long starship, left a damaged Earth to seek colonization of a planet orbiting the Sun's nearest neighbor, Alpha Centauri. Two years prior to the events in this book, the inhabitants of this generational ark experienced a devastating attack by creatures known as the Wolf Angels. Now, this thriving community of 3,000 people is in crucial need of securing more uranium isotope to provide power to their ship, and a dangerous mining mission on the Delta iceworld that they are about to pass may be their only chance for survival.

Among the crew selected is a woman named Caroline, who has some frightening premonitions that seem to be connected with this mission. When the crew arrives only to discover a city on the dead planetoid, they realize that they have little knowledge of this world's past...and the people who inhabited it long ago. Delving into a search for answers may be the most dangerous thing they could do.

Although the author has put a lot of thought into the science surrounding this story, I must admit that his skills in facts and calculations far exceed those related to fiction writing. Regardless, I believe that this might be a fascinating story for a budding astronomer or sci-fi freak.
