Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

"When I made my first album in 1974 at the Wick studios in Richmond there was never any time to lose and this record was made on quite a speedy process by many of my extremely talented friends. We took the songs from the record straight onto stage. This album is the result of what happened when we first took the music of "I've Got My Own Album To Do" public. Thus the First Barbarians were born. I'm very proud of the work Jesse, Jamie and Katy have done in restoring this, originally humbly filmed and recorded documentation of that night at the Kilburn State." - Ronnie Wood

Product Description

Two disc (CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) set recorded and filmed live in London in 1974 at a concert in support of Ronnie Wood's first solo album, 'I've Got My Own Album To Do' Ronnie Wood was, at the time, a member of the Faces as well as a solo artist, and he was soon to become the 'new boy' in the Rolling Stones. Wood's band on this live outing featured many of the musicians who helped him on the album, including Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, Small Faces/Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan and the exceptional talents of session musicians Willie Weeks (bass) and Andy Newmark (drums). Also features a guest appearance from the Faces' vocalist Rod Stewart. Both the Cd and DVD feature an exclusive track with digitally remastered audio and video from Ronnies personal archive. The release includes an eight-page booklet with hand written liner notes by Ronnie Wood and previously unseen photos.

DVD 60mins and features the following: 1. Intro / 2. Am I Grooving You / 3. Cancel Everything / 4. If You Gotta Make A Fool Out Of Somebody / 5. Mystifies Me* / 6. Take A Look At The Guy* / 7. Act Together / 8. Shirley / 9. Forever / 10. Sure The One You Need / 11. Crotch Music / 12. I Can Feel The Fire.
Please note that the DVD was filmed in 1974 and is technically of the time and may not meet the exacting standards of today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good release but has its technical difficulties/limitations, January 3, 2008
This review is from: First Barbarians: Live From Kilburn (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
For any Stones/Faces/Rod Stewart/Willie Weeks fan, this is a must. There's not that much video footage (legally) released of Faces, so to see Ron Wood, Ian McLagan and, on three songs, Rod Stewart, it's a treat. However, don't expect the high audio and visual quality associated with today's concert DVDs. The picture alternates between videotape (color) and what looks like film (black and white), sometimes in the same exact shot/camera angle. The color footage looks like old videotape, while the black and white footage looks like pretty good quality film, although one can still see videotape-like flaws (horiznontal lines, drop outs) in the film portions. The camerawork alternates from so-so to fantastic. Sound is pretty decent, but sounds kind of bassy, like an old cassette tape. Willie Weeks' bassplaying is amazing, as is Andy Newmarks' drumming. It's great to see Wood be a true band leader, something he rarely did in Faces and something he's never done in the Stones.

The sight of Richards playing electric piano on one tune is cool, as is the keyboard work of Faces piano-hitter Ian McLagan.

B+

4.0 out of 5 stars First Barbarians "Live from Kilburn", February 18, 2011

Great sloppy rock & Roll recorded live right after Ron Wood finished his first solo album "I've got my own album to do",with everybody on that album including Rod Stewart performing. The DVD is good and it captures these Rock & Rollers at the peak of their powers. I wish Ron Wood still played like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for stones fans., August 21, 2008
This review is from: First Barbarians: Live From Kilburn (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
I enjoyed the CD/DVD very much. Seeing how Ronnie & Kieth guitar weave before ronnie joined the stones was a real treat. The music and jamming is really good. Of course the quality of the picture and music is not the greatest but it is better the good. Overall a good product with some great musicians performing some good music. I reccomend.
