5.0 out of 5 stars My children were as enthralled as I was!
This adorable book on how we all came about, is one of my favorites when it comes to children's books. My kids never get tired of hearing the story, I think partly because they love to be talked about, and because the author and artist really convey those special moments of pregnancy and birth that "speak" to children-(as well as the adults!) 1.0 out of 5 stars Returned it!
I ordered this book to read to our 2 year old now that I am pregnant with #2. This is not a story at all, it's more a collection of random thoughts. I am big into breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing and all that, but this book was way to hippie trippy for me. I wouldn't have minded the picture of the naked lady, it was tasteful enough, but when I got to the part where...

This adorable book on how we all came about, is one of my favorites when it comes to children's books. My kids never get tired of hearing the story, I think partly because they love to be talked about, and because the author and artist really convey those special moments of pregnancy and birth that "speak" to children-(as well as the adults!) The first time I read it to my boys, ages 2 & 5, I had to make a real effort not to cry! It's a beautiful-TRUE story, and makes a wonderful gift for an older sibling-when there's a new addition to the family! It brings back wonderful emotions for Mom and Dad, and helps the older child realize that the love Mommy and Daddy have for the new baby is exactly the same as it is for them. Great book!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A birth-focused description - good for new siblings., October 16, 1999
A very pretty and sensitive book about pregnancy and birth (does not deal with conception). It is told from a second person point of view, as though the child being read to was the infant. The author focuses on the feelings of the mother while she was carrying her baby: what it felt like when the infant kicked, how the infant was fed, etc. Includes good in utero descriptions and drawings. Lacks multicultural drawings.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves this book, June 25, 2010

I paired this book with pictures of me when I was pregnant, and my three year old LOVES it. He knows that he was in Mommy's belly, and he laughs at the parts where the unborn baby is jumping around, keeping the mother from getting to sleep because my little guy did the same.
A sweet book to explain pregnancy to very young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just enough details for my kids..., August 7, 2009

I was looking for something to help explain to my 5 and 7 year old kids how babies grow inside mommy. It has just enough illustrations and clear words to explain what is going on. I think it is appropriate for my purpose. It does not talk about conception, I think that should be a different topic all together anyway.

I wouldn't have minded the picture of the naked lady, it was tasteful enough, but when I got to the part where you're supposed to believe that contractions and delivery feel like "giant hugs" to the baby I was done. I don't know about my son's perspective, but none of that felt like giant hugs to me. This book is what they would give you at touchy-feely childbirth preparation class. I don't think it's really a story for children at all.
