"Santa" got this for our two year old but past years have taught me to try electronic toys out early. We demo'd this car on 12/23 and were quite sad that it made loud noises but failed to respond to the remote at all. Attempting to trouble shoot it ourselves before braving the Christmas Eve lines for an exchange we discovered that the toy also requires a 9 volt battery (for the remote) which is not included. The box makes no mention of this but does state that it requires 4 AA's (included). ** You'll want to have that extra battery on hand to make the toy functional.**
Our little guy loves this toy despite the noise factor and it's much easier for him to use than his "big boy" R/C toys that were so frustrating to him. It took him less than an hour to figure out how to turn it off and on by himself. His little sister has dropped it, stepped on it, chewed on it and otherwise abused this car and it's still working just fine. It really is made well for the harsh play of a toddler.

My 11m old son received this as a christmas present. It worked great for a few days. Then it went down 1 stairstep (sunken living room) and the motor stopped working. Lights and sound, but no movement. Inside, a resistor had sheered off that was connected to the motor. The car is made by Battat for Parents Magazine. I called Battat and left messages yesterday and last week. As of today, the phone numbers for Battat all give me a message of "this number is not in service". When it works, it works great - but beware that if it breaks you're probably out of luck unless you're handy with a soldering gun.

Pros:

- 20 month old LOVES it

- He follows it closely and giggles when it spins around

- He loves the lights and the spinning gears inside

- Works beautifully on wood/non-carpeted floors

Cons:

- Is rather loud

- Range is only about 15 feet so it means you can't be lazy and sit down while playing with it but since my little one follows it around it's not a big deal.

We received this as a gift and didn't like it at all. My two year old used it for about a day. But it doesn't go very far with the remote (you can't just have it move across the floor) and it's VERY noisy! If it is walked away from you can hear it in the other room still making an annoying noise. I'd go with something else if you're looking for a first remote control car

I purchased this car for my 2 year old son for Christmas. Shame on me for not taking it out of the box and testing it out prior to Christmas morning. The car lights up and makes sounds (very annoying) but didn't move an inch. I replaced all batteries - still no movement. The manufacturer was of no help. Thank god someone else also got him the Chicco remote control car - because it works!

Steer clear of this stinker.

A friend gave my son this car for his first birthday. It never worked properly out of the box. The controller would sometimes work and sometimes not, a couple shakes would either cause it to work or not. I didn't care because my son didn't quite understand the toy so it sat for a year and a bit without use. Just yesterday he picked it up again (he's now two and a bit) wanting to play with it. I could sometimes get it to work and he LOVED it! The only frustration was that controller!!! So I promised to him that mommy would fix it. I'm a mechanical engineer and figured I could trouble shoot it.
Turns out there might be two issues. One was that there is a small pice of metal that makes the "button" connection, it was a little loose. I tightened it and bent it so that it would surely work. Also my remote had a rattle when I shook it, something plastic inside was broken. I realized it was the part that held the battery tight to the power connectors (you can see this by just opening up the battery section). I bent the battery connectors a little so that they made a better connection. Now it works every time. I hope this helps for those who had isses with the remote.
I agree with others it is loud! - right now for my two year old that's part of the "fun" but it really annoys us parents.
Also I don't like that it won't turn off after a certain time of inactivity. When my son's short attention span runs out its left to make a loud sound and drains the battery.
Overall a poorly designed toy. I gave my review 2 stars because we had a lot of fun last night playing with it and after the repair, I hope it will continue to be fun.

This car should not be given to little kids. It is too noisy when turned on and it has to be left on in order to use the remote control... which means that the child has to hear the horrible buzzing sound the whole time he is playing with it. My son hates the sound. It has to be turned on and off with a little switch at the bottom. At 14 months my son is not able to do that because the switch is almost invisible to a little child.

The remote control is also poorly designed. There is one button that does everything... it moves the car forward and turn it around in all directions. It is extremely sensitive. Even my husband and I were not able to move the car in the direction we wanted... I can't even imagine a little child doing that.

I am returning it to Target. The only reason I bought it because it said "Award Winner" on the box. I don't know what award they are talking of. I wonder who in their right mind would give this toy an award.
