Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

This no-nonsense little book is exactly what it claims to be: a beginning board book about Christmas, complete with bold, pleasing photographs of bells, stars, mistletoe, and a baby Jesus in his Nativity manger. Headings on each spread seem more for the adult: "House decorations," "Christmas plants." Children will be more interested in the items suggested by these categories: candles, holly and berries, Christmas trees. Sections on "Christmas counting" (three kings, seven angels), "Christmas shapes" (crescent, star), "How many?" (Are there more red balls than blue bows?) and "Matching shapes" help the youngest reader practice developmental skills, while the dozens of pictures with labels throughout assist with vocabulary and prereading skills. A nice, quiet book, perfect for baby's first (or second) Christmas. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter --This text refers to an alternate Board book edition.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-This utilitarian offering gives parents of toddlers and preschoolers a starting point for discussing the symbols and meaning of Christmas. Clearly labeled full-color photos appear on double-page spreads given such headings as "Tree decorations," "The Nativity," and "Animals at the stable." If some of the magic is missing, children will nevertheless learn what a manger is, how mistletoe looks as it's growing, and some of the traditions that are observed. The book concludes with several pages that reinforce counting and shape-identification concepts using typical holiday items.-S.P.

This book is as good as all of the other 'My First' books. The pictures are everyday Christmas items that you can relate to the same items you have in your house during the holiday season. My one and half year old continues looking at this book long after the holiday season is over.

I cannot say enough about how good this series of books is. We have all the titles that are avaiable in Australia and they are the most well-read books in our Children's library.
They are the perfect-sized books for your little one and a great way to get them interested in learning to love books. The pages are strong and sturdy and will take any amount of page turning your little one can dish out.
The best thing about these books is the wonderful photography of each item - clearly labeled with it's name. As you read this book over and over to your child it won't be long before they are the ones pointing to the picture and telling you what it is.
I've read this series of books (over and over)to my children since they were about 6 months old. The eldest (now 4 and a half) still flicks through the books and has started to point things out and say the words to her little brother.
Highly recommended!

At first evaluation I thought to myself 'my daughter will not like this book'. I thought the pages had too much information on each page; however, she loves it AND is able to pick out the items we ask her to find within the pages of multiple items, so I was wrong, it is kid friendly, toddler that is (16 Months). Enjoy the many pages of WOW! WOW!

Colorful and educational are the two words that would best describe this delightful Christmas book for the little one.
Each page brimming with full color pictures of such things as, Animals at the Stable, including the camel, sheep, donkey, dove and cow. Adorable.
Another page is filled with tree decorations, such as tinsel, bows, a star and ornaments.
This is a great little book to introduce your child to many of the traditions of Christmas. It is sturdy, colorful and chock full of learning information.
A very good read to share with your child as you pass along the many wonders of the Christmas Season.

I ordered this book for my 10 month old granddaughter. I have to say it is truly one of the most boring children's picture books I've ever seen. It's a very strange mixture of religious versus secular Christmas using a series of stock, boring photos. It reads like a Sears catalog---but not the exciting Christmas edition. I can't imagine any child finding this interesting. Fortunately, our granddaughter enjoys chewing on books, so at least it may have some use. So far, she doesn't even want to chew on it though. As both a teacher and a grandmother, I am very disappointed.

I got this for my toddler so he could learn the words for a lot of Christmas-related things. I thought he'd like it since he liked another DK picture book, but he's barely looked at this one. I think it might be because each page is crammed with photos and words, and it might just be too busy to hold his interest. There are a lot of words in here that seem sort of obscure to me (at least for a toddler), and it takes forever to read through all of them.

I gave this book for my son's second Christmas (1 year old). He loves all of the pictures. Obviously the reading is long, but makes the book last longer for the years to come. The thick cardboard helps with roughness, but you still need to watch after the book so it is not destroyed. Has many objects that a baby and/or children can relate to over years to come.
