4.0 out of 5 stars I found the Little Christmas Tree!
Like everyone else, this album was a treasure from mine and my younger sister's childhood. I can remember how she would cry and cry every time we listened to Red Skelton's Little Christmas Tree! It's one of my sister's strongest Christmas memories. I started searching other sites before I found it here on Amazon and although the CD doesn't offer Mr. Skelton's narration,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Red Skeltons Littlest Christmas Tree!
Growing up in Hawaii this was our favorite family Christmas album, since we didn't get snow in our back yard, we could only listen to this album and dream about it. We too have been looking for it for years as our copy got lost in the shuffle. My sister finally found the orriginal record at a Thrift store on the mainland. Once I had the exact name I was so happy to find...

4.0 out of 5 stars I found the Little Christmas Tree!, April 5, 2005
This review is from: First Christmas Record for Children (Exp) (Audio CD)
Like everyone else, this album was a treasure from mine and my younger sister's childhood. I can remember how she would cry and cry every time we listened to Red Skelton's Little Christmas Tree! It's one of my sister's strongest Christmas memories. I started searching other sites before I found it here on Amazon and although the CD doesn't offer Mr. Skelton's narration, it can be downloaded from: www.albertarose.org/Music/christmas/stories/ChrisStories.htm I downloaded using Windows Media Player and burned it onto a CD. I sent my sister a copy. This Christmas recording just wouldn't have been the same without TLCT, as that is the one thing we all seem to remember most. Hope this helps those still yearning for TLCT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, Fair cd!, October 25, 2001

I'm 32 years old and like many of the other reviewers I had this album when growing up and it is one of my favorite holiday albums. I was greatly pleased to find that it has been reissued in cd form. Like the other reviewers I am disappointed that they did not include Red Skelton's THE LITTLEST CHRISTMAS TREE (TLCT).

I wonder why TLCT was removed from this album? I've heard that it may have to do with difficulties from the Red Skelton estate. For those who have heard the original album and remember TLCT will recall that the Christmas tree learned the meaning of Christmas once Santa described how he he flew into an Iron Curtain and found that parts of the world did not celebrate the holidays or practice the act of selfless giving. Obviously this story concerned the Cold War. I wonder if the children of today could even relate to this story as we did?

I have purchased this cd and appreciate the crisp clear songs. My album is full of pops and hisses. I love all the songs. C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S. by Rosemary Cloony is one of my favorites. For those looking to find a copy of the TLCT they may want to check out some of Red Skelton's old radio programs. TLCT is actually a 30 minute radio program from which part of the story was taken for the original album. The original version is very funny and for those who are missing it from this cd may want to look into obtaining a copy of that radio program. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to learn where you can obtain a copy.

Thanks to technology I have been able to reproduce the original album. I copied the songs from the cd I purchased and then, using a software program, copied TLCT to my computer. I was able to clean it up and remove some of the pops and hisses. I then produced my very own cd recreation of the original album.

This is a very good album. If you had the album as a kid it will no doubt bring back fond memories. If you have kids, as I do, they will no doubt enjoy this album as well.

Once I had the exact name I was so happy to find it on CD. HOWEVER, VERY DISAPPOINTED that Red Skeltons Littlest Christmas tree was left off. I am so happy we have a copy of the orriginal and have The Littlest Christmas Tree on a tape now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas Album, but altered from original LP, October 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: First Christmas Record for Children (Exp) (Audio CD)
As a child I loved this album, and still feel listening to it as an adult is an essential part of getting into the mood of Christmas. However, my scratchy old LP had the following songs on it with the same cover. What's missing is a beautiful Christmas story for children set to music, and performed by the wonderful entertainer Red Skelton. The Little Christmas Tree is sadly missed. I can't imagine what possessed Sony/Columbia to alter this fine album and render it less than it once was, although this seems to be a standard industry practice involving old classics. I will probably still buy the CD to have better quality copies of the other songs, but I wish The Little Christmas Tree was still included.

Here Comes Santa Clause - Doris Day

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause - Jimmy Boyd

The Littlest Snowman - Captain Kangaroo

Suzy Snowflake - Rosemary Clooney

`Twas The Night Before Christmas - Ray Heatherton

Jingle Bells - Arthur Godfrey

The Little Christmas Tree - Red Skelton

He'll Be Coming Down The Chimney - Gene Autry

Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town - Bob Hannon

C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S - Rosemary Clooney

OTHER CHRISTMAS ALBUMS I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ARE:

==============================================

The Andy Williams Christmas Album

Jimmy Dean's Christmas Card

Bing Crosby - White Christmas

Christmas with the Gatlins

Elvis Presley - If Every Day Was Like Christmas

Dean Martin - Making Spirits Bright (Not quite the same as the original "Christmas Album" but still very good)

John Denver - Rocky Mountain Christmas

Christmas with Chet Atkins

Gene Autry - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (The original album, Gene Autry Sings Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was another victim of alteration)

A Brenda Lee Christmas - In the New Old-Fashioned Way

4.0 out of 5 stars First christmas record for children, November 23, 2000

I have been searching for this album for 7 years and now that I find it the one song that I wanted it for is not on it. I did go to the Red Skelton website and purchase the cassette of "The Littlest Christmas Tree. I do agree that it is a ashame that his estate would want this taken off the record. Was it Sony who wouldn't pay his estate royalities for the use of this song? I feel that Red Skelton would not want this to have turned out this way. I am 40 years old and I can remember as a child listening to this album and that song still makes me cry. How special it is that so many share this one tiny piece of heaven!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where is the Littlest Christmas Tree?, November 25, 1999

I am so upset...it took me years to find this album and it doesn't even have my favorite on it! Anyone have the Littlest Christmas Tree on tape who can make me a copy? It is a shame that some greedy person decided to take that off of this release....especially since the part they cut out was about "giving to one another without greed".

3.0 out of 5 stars Happy & disappointed, December 3, 2001
This review is from: First Christmas Record for Children (Exp) (Audio CD)
I have been looking for this CD/Album forever with no luck. I just thought of Amazon.com and tried it today to find the CD listed. My daughter loved this album as a child and she and I have both been searching for it for her two girls aged 4 and 1. It will mean a great deal to her to have it for her children. I am so disappointed that Red Skelton's "The Littlest Christmas Tree" is not included. I realize it may not be "politically correct" for today but it was special favourite on the old album.

I have searched high and low for this CD for years now!!! As a child, I listened to this album every single Christmas and performed for family in the livingroom with a honey-dripper as my microphone. Suzy Snowflake was (and is) my all time favorite (I still know all the words)...and I too miss The Littlest Christmas Tree by Red Skeleton. This brings back so many memories for me - thanks Amazon for carrying a classic!

You cannot imagine the joy of finding my favorite Christmas album of all time has brought me. As soon as I found it, I began scanning the titles that brought me great joy as a child only to find out that Red Skelton's classic, The Littlest Christmas Tree, was not part of the new release. I bought 4 copies for my family and will gladly buy another 4 copies, if it is re-released with Red's classic. If someone can put a bug in the ear of the producers please do so. (...)

This review is from: First Christmas Record for Children (Exp) (Audio CD)
I am 50 years old and I will always remember playing the album for my kids. I was so happy that we finelly found it but it is missing the most important recording. The Little Christmas Tree by Red Skelton. I am so disapointed. I will not be able to share this with my grandchildren, the true meaning of x-mas.
