More About the Author

Elizabeth Bevarly is the award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of more than sixty works of contemporary romance. Her books have been published in two dozen languages and three dozen countries, totaling more than ten million copies in print worldwide. Although she can't remember wanting to be anything other than a writer, her career side trips before publication included stints as a salesclerk, waitress, bartender and editorial assistant. She has called home places as diverse as New Jersey and Puerto Rico, but now lives in her native Kentucky with her husband and son.

She is delighted to be offering some of her out-of-print works on Kindle and is looking forward to the publication of her first women's fiction title in trade paperback. THE HOUSE ON BUTTERFLY WAY will be published by Berkley Trade in February 2012. 4.0 out of 5 stars Decent read, but not best of Bevarly, August 16, 2001

I truly enjoy Bevarly novels. Her snappy writing style, appealing characters, and great humor always make for enjoyable, interesting reads.

Tess and Will are both engaging characters, and their romance, growing as it does out of a long-standing friendship, is very appealing. The story itself is based on a bad misunderstanding, though, and while the misunderstanding itself was essential to the plot, it is, like so many romance novel misunderstandings, difficult to buy into. I cannot imagine that the people who love and trust Tess doubt the truth when she tells it to them.

While the characters -are- charming, and their love story is believable, this particular story lacks some of the "zing" that I have come to associate with Bevarly novels. The characters were almost too sweet and one-dimensional.

Still, Bevarly's mediocre is still better than a lot of authors' bests, and it's a fine, engaging read. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Bevarly's trademark fun!, November 13, 2000

This review is from: First Comes Love (Desire, 1323) (Paperback)
Tess Monahan, who has never - ever - been sick in all her life, is suddenly sick, and the whole town of Marigold thinks she's pregnant. She's not, really, but no matter what she says no one believes her, not even Will Darrow, whom Tess has had a crush on for years.

Will likes Tess as well, but just the thought of being pummeled by her five brothers keeps him away, and hey, Tess is like a sister to him, isn't she? Not anymore. Will struggles with his undeniable attraction to Tess, not to mention the thought of the mobster who has impregnated her (Tess made that up).

I liked both Will and Tess, and Tess's brothers. The only sour note would be just how overbearing and annoying the people of Marigold are. Sheesh! They bring her maternity clothes, furniture, baby stuff, etc. and at some point Tess stops arguing she's not pregnant. I wanted to slap half of them for not believing Tess.

All in all, however, the relationship between Will and Tess is sweet and charming, as is Will's discovery that his feelings for Tess are not exactly secret.

5.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYED THE STORY, November 5, 2001

I enjoyed the story as such. Can understand the twists and turns of the town thinking [have to have some kind of conflict].
The back blurb ****Pssst.... Tess is pregnant and single! And....a virgin? ***** Is eye catching [and intriguing] but again the same old dive into bed.....still --- loved the characters --- I suppose a mix-up like this could happen????
I will be happy to pass the book on - not a keeper for my library.
