This year you may not be able to increase your salary and benefits, but you can increase your financial acumen. In the long run, that may be one of the best benefits you'll ever receive.

Bethany and Scott Palmer, "The Money Couple," have written a practical and timely guide to help couples with financial communication. Their unique idea: the root cause of money troubles is not a lack of money or budget systems, it is financial infidelity.

You'll learn about the five money personalities: Saver, Spender, Risk Taker, Security Seeker, and Flyer (as in flying by the seat of your pants). What's your personality? How about your spouse? What happens when Spenders marry Savers? (They explain and give amazing counsel.)

Bethany and Scott list the "Eight Simple Rules for Fighting Fair," including Rule #7: Expect to Blow It. "We certainly don't expect you to fight fair every time you argue--we don't."

"Financial infidelity can consume your relationship like a wildfire taking hold in a field of dry grass," they write. "You end up spending what seems like every single moment talking about money, fighting about money, crying about money. Or you stop talking about money altogether because it's just too painful." Their solution? "Consider this book a bucket of water you can use to douse the flames."

The Palmers recommend simple tools for fixing financial headaches: the Money Dump and the Money Huddle (a monthly meeting). My betrothed and I have differing views of money and it really worried me. This is a second marriage for me and a third marriage for him. When I found a recommendation for this book in a magazine article I immediately ordered it. Praise the Lord, my sweetheart and I both read the book and worked through the ending chapters. We will continue to use suggestions from this book. We may never see totally eye-to-eye on money issues, but we can talk about them and understand each other so much better. I am now totally comfortable with marrying this person. Thank you so much for such a helpful book.

This book hit the target on our financial struggle. We have only just started it but already it's helping us to understand each other and why we handle money differently which is the root of our fiancial communication struggle/fight! I believe as we work through it our marriage will improve. I won't loan MY book out (too many personal notes written in it already!)BUT I'd buy it for others!

Product delivered promptly and in great condition. Seems I was dissapointed with the content and context of the material itself. A bit touchy feely for my idea of serious material worthy for spending the money and time printing a book.

This is a fabulous book for anyone who is contemplating marriage or knows anyone who marries! If someone told me that, I'd roll my eyes. But, after reading this book, I will always believe that! Why?

The Palmers, accomplished financial advisors, combine principles of communication to solve money issues and perceptions that are stunting and killing marriages, even as I write. If fifty percent of marriages are failing, and money problems are largest reason to those said failures, then why don't most couples (assuming they want to be successful) get good financial advice as it relates to their financial personalities?

As I read the book, I saw issues that I myself, have experienced. This book not only nails the financial personalities, but takes one through how the various personalities relate. The book is not long and is replete with day to day issues and perspectives.

This book could serve as a wonderful gift for couples as they fall in love, as they are about to marry, or even to those who are long married, but have lost that original spark. It is very simply, a great read and could go a long way toward taking a chunk out of a horrid marriage failure rate in America.
