Book Description

July 3, 2007
In the latest from the author of Always the Bridesmaid, Cate and Ethan are happily married at last-but it looks like the honeymoon is over.

Cate Padgett is no longer a permanent bridesmaid. Having found a love of her own with Ethan, she's enjoying newlywed bliss. Life is so much calmer now that the wedding mayhem has subsided. Just one problem: as the last of their friends to marry, Cate and Ethan are now the only ones who don't have a kid, aren't expecting a kid, and aren't even trying. There's not even a bump on the horizon. They were just cozying up to being a twosome, and now there's pressure to make it three. Those carefree bridesmaid days are starting to look good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing and light, August 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: First Comes Love (Paperback)
Still enjoying the newness of her marriage, Cate begins to think about having a baby. After dealing with some problems getting pregnant, she finally hits the jackpot (after spending her life's savings on hundreds of pregnancy tests). Cate spends the first few months in bed with terrible nausea then manages to get a bad eye infection. Throughout the amusing descriptions of her pregnancy craziness, she has to deal with an insane relative who has asked her to be bridesmaid - while pregnant. This is a light and fun book, sure to please moms-to-be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, August 20, 2009
This review is from: First Comes Love (Paperback)
I enjoyed the first two books, "Always a Bridesmaid" and "Here Comes the Bride," and I wanted to see what happened next, to Cate and Ethan and the supporting cast. I loved these characters. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Cate wants a baby, seemingly because all of her friends are having babies. Good reason, eh? She wastes so much money on so many pregnancy tests, then it happens! She's pregnant! Then comes the morning sickness. Reading of Cate's continuing sickness is not my idea of a fun read. I gave up on the book about halfway through. As an aspiring writer, I constantly hear that the plot should be engaging and unique...what's so unique and special about a tale of bad morning sickness, and a woman who wants a child because all of her friends have kids?

2.0 out of 5 stars I didn't like it as much as the previous books about Cate, January 27, 2009
This review is from: First Comes Love (Paperback)
I really enjoyed Cate's story in "Always a Bridesmaid" and "Here Comes the Bride" but I really think that Whitney Lyles probably should have ended the series there. At the beginning of "First Comes Love" when Cate has a pregnancy scare, Ethan is frightened that she actually might be pregnant. Cate hadn't even been thinking of having a baby but her friends start to announce their pregnancies and all of sudden, she is obsessed with getting pregnant.

I found the book a bit tedious to read because it was like the Poor Cate marathan. First she has trouble conceiving, then she has the world's worst morning sickess for the first trimester, then she gets an infection in her eye, and on top of that she has to be the bridesmaid for Denise (who tried to ruin her and Ethan's wedding in the second book). I also had a problem with when Cate told her doctor, he told her he didn't want to see her for 6 weeks. But what about the pre-natal vitamins and all that? I haven't been pregnant but it seems that both of my sisters went to the doctor when they found out that they were pregnant.

The book had some enjoyable parts and I did read it relatively fast. I just don't know that this book was needed. I was perfectly happy with how the story ended for Cate and Ethan at the end of "Here Comes the Bride".
