5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Two or Three Best Commentaries on 1 Corinthians!, December 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: First Corinthians: A Contemporary Commentary (Trinity paper) (Paperback)
Dr. Clark has written a commentary that is readable for the layman, but at the same time will prove enlightening to many theologians. This is no easy task (most popular commentaries are so over simplified, they say almost nothing; most scholarly commentaries are incomprehensible to the average Christian), but Clark brings it off brilliantly. This is a commentary every Christian should have in his or her library.

3.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Alright!, July 12, 2010
This review is from: First Corinthians: A Contemporary Commentary (Trinity paper) (Paperback)
Having studied many of the commentaries available on 1 Corinthians (on 11.2-16 in particular) I have to say this one truly surprised me - and I am hard to shock/surprise! At one point Gordon mentions "ejaculatory prayer" - not something one hears mentioned very often I have to admit - and (unfortunately?!) also happens to ask, within the space of two sentences, with regard to a "wife" - "did she wear a hat when she went to bed at night?" (p.171) Methinks the question is better left unanswered.
If you want a 'fun' read - I haven't even mentioned what he says about things "Romish" (p.169), or his comments about "hippy hair" (p.175) - then enjoy the fascinating insights offered in this book.
