5.0 out of 5 stars Three great songs from Bright Eyes
This is only a single but the two supporting songs are amazing. When The President Talks To God is a great song thats funny but sad because it's true. Musicly it's acoustic and great but the focus of the song is the lyrics and vocal tone. True Blue is the best song on this single. (It's also on Lua.) First off the lyrics are just amazing and the music is fun and upbeat...

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage political rhetoric just to sell albums.
If you want to sell albums, bash Bush, which is the idea with Bright Eyes. Bright Eyes needs to open his eyes instead of regurgitating the rhetoric that the MTV generation believes without looking at the hard facts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three great songs from Bright Eyes, April 9, 2005
This review is from: First Day of My Life (Audio CD)
This is only a single but the two supporting songs are amazing. When The President Talks To God is a great song thats funny but sad because it's true. Musicly it's acoustic and great but the focus of the song is the lyrics and vocal tone. True Blue is the best song on this single. (It's also on Lua.) First off the lyrics are just amazing and the music is fun and upbeat. Overall it's a great feel-good song. (I think it's a cover and a lot of people have done it but i'm not very sure on that.) The title track, First Day Of My Life, from "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning" is another great song from Bright Eyes that goes along really well with the music video if you get to see it. So over all it's only three songs but the songs are supurb. Liner notes include the lyrics to the title track only. (Reviewing the UK first pressing edition)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Songs, January 28, 2006
This review is from: First Day of My Life (Audio CD)
They are good songs, but a previous reviewer was wrong. This is not the group that recorded Superman (Its not Easy). That was some other band. Bright Eyes are indie Emo, fronted by Conor Oberst, and he's really quite good. He performed 'When the President Talks to God' on Letterman in the summer of 2005, I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not easy being me., December 2, 2005

This review is from: First Day of My Life (Audio CD)
You may have heard Bright Eyes and not have known it. This is the group that recorded Superman. "It's not easy being me." And It isn't easy being Conor Obern a lead singer with a voice like Bobcat Goldthwait. But, once you get used to it. It is so new and fresh and original that you have to have more. The three cuts on this Disc are nothing short of Truth and light and poetry.
Conor's voice has a unique childlike sensitive quality, a shy and hesitant vulnerability that makes us accept his sincerity subliminally.
Two cuts of this disk are a tour de force for that voice. The third cut is a Dylan style protest rant, and it is about time we hear more like it.
The three good cuts on this disk are more and better music than you are likely to find on any ten cut disk. On this one you just don't have to listen to the filler.
Every thought is clear, every note is tweaked just so. And the poetry is natural, easy, unaffected and heartfelt.
The politics, I confess are my own as well. It is good to hear someone at last standup to a fraud and a liar in a world with too much "Fox News".
Buy some extras and send them out for Christmas. Turn on your friends.
